Is the missile defense system in Europe a good thing or will it cause political issues?

It is a good thing and really no matter where this may be will always have some political issues that come along with it.

Agreed, I think the answer to both is yes. I think it is a necessary and beneficial tool, but will also cause political issues with Russia.

Quite frankly, this is a NATO job, and a job for the European Union, NOT the US Navy...
It's fine to provide self defense for our own units there, but how long will we continue to enrich the likes of Germany by providing their defense?

I'm afraid NATO may have outlived it's primary objective unless it's core is shaken and re-established for the 21st Century threats we now understand.
