I think I actually misread your question, do you mean the history of each commander (good, bad, ugly) or in a unit the commanders stretching back to the unit activation?

Navy History and Heritage Command is the current official title. Command Operations Reports are submitted there yearly, which also include the COs for that unit. Might take a little research though.

The Center for Military History receives Annual Unit Histories that are collected at the Brigade level and above. It would take some research and establishing contacts there but you might at least find some of the commanders that way. The Unit Associations that are still viable do a pretty good job of keeping track of their prior commanders as well as Presidents of the associations. Good luck in your search PO1 Kerry Hood!
