So what's the background here? Is this frame a capture from a contemporary documentary depicting a real live officer? Is it a frame from a commercial film from that era? From a later time? Was he branched JAG or acting as a member of a Court Martial performing a JAG function? Didi contemporary regulations preclude general officers from wearing branch insignia?

If it's a commercial production then the chances are it's not to regulation. Come to think of it, even way back in 1946-7 branch insignia was worn below the US's and perpendicular to the inner lapel line. So it's probably safe to say it's honked up.

LTC (Join to see) - If this is from a TV series all bets are off. People who watch/monitor TV shows and movies for uniform violations need to get a life. Actors will wear whatever wardrobe has that fits and wardrobe not exactly in the business of being accurate on subtle uniform differences.

I'm sorry I posted this and I hit the button to skip the commentary but it's from the movie Tokyo trials on Netflix concerning the trying of Japanese war criminals for 1946 - 1948

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - Its supposed to be a documentary. If you are a student of military history and of WWII, it would be interesting to note how war crime trials are seen by the general world populace. Especially due to the International Court of Justice, better known as the World Court, appears to have taken over the place of military tribunals or appropriate jurisdictional courts, when they (UN) deem appropriate.

First of all this is supposed to be a representation of MG Myron C. Cramer. He was the Judge Advocate General during WWII.

Whoever put the uniform together for this "documentary" got it wrong. They did not even try to match things up properly. There is a picture of the General in a paper called "Sitting In Judgement" about MG Cramer's experience during the trials. In the picture he is wearing JAG insignia.
Next, if they were trying to be even close to accurate, but made a mistake, they should have used Cavalry insignia, instead of Engineer insignia.

No need for speculation, I feel sorry for MG Cramer.

Thank you for correcting us the show was very good it was seen from the Dutch perspective since the main characters has to be judged from the Netherlands but seeing just in the Philippines India Soviet Union Canada England the United States was really interesting. The screenplay I thought was well written it was like a four-part mini-series on Netflix. This is not a chick flick there are no gratuitous sex scenes there's no action is all courtroom discussion ethics and rule of law so it's not your typical formula Hollywood shows that have a gratuitous sex scenes just to make people happy LOL

I answered no for a couple of reasons, not the least of which it was that no one here has access to the version of AR 670-1 that was in affect at that time and I believe that, even today, flag officers are provided a great amount of leeway when it comes to uniforms.

LTC Stephen C. - rank has its privileges but a staff sergeant mentioned in one of the posts it was a jacked up production because jcore it been around since Washington days so it was an oversight by the costume Department. Still the character was played very well. No complaints about the show at all except for you know Major General Jag officer wearing Corps of engineer Castle emblems which I thought was funny. I knew the answer was wrong but I learned a lot thank you

LTC (Join to see), well, I really got my answer wrong since I wasn't paying close attention. I was giving current info and you were looking for historic info and I think MSG Brad Sand's original comment is most appropriate regarding the GO clothing regs back then.

LTC (Join to see) - It is interesting that the actor looks a lot like MG Cramer, whom he is portraying, when comparing photographs.

SSG Robert Webster - it was a good quality show the level of Netflix was he close to the movie emperor where they had to decide whether or not to prosecute Emperor Hirohito.
