Please forgive me, but isn't this the general that handled the Academy's debacle regarding racial epithets that turned out to be false?
SSG Warren Swan
Thank you for coming to RP Sir. My question to you is: you made a well received speech about race relations in the Air Force after an incident at the Academy. While the incident turned out to be a hoax, your speech was still correct. The Air Force reserve just had to deal with a recruit who made a video where she makes dispariging comments about hunting minorities. The Air Force values are no different than any of her sister services, and it only supports the Team mentality. Going forward what do you think the Air Force can do better when dealing with race issues when they pop up, and what do you foresee in the future to deal with those coming in and currently serving to ensure that they understand we all have a stake in the service, and that no one is better than the next based off race, sex, religion, or social economic stature?

SSG Swan - Thanks for the great question. I think you really put this in perspective, because diversity encompasses so many individual characteristics and when we value each individual they can use their perspective to make our military better. I think our leaders do a great job dealing with issues when they arise, but I also think those things that don’t make the news (all calls, monthly celebrations, 1v1 feedback) have just as much impact in developing a force that understands the power of diversity. I believe that interpersonal leadership, starting at the lowest level of our organizations, is key to developing and maintaining the culture of dignity and respect for everyone. That's why we focus so much on the character development of our cadets here at the academy; it is all of our duty to live this way and hold each other accountable to our values, both in leadership positions and with our peers.

Good Morning, everyone! Thank you for joining me on RallyPoint today. I'm looking forward to answering some of the questions you've asked throughout this last week.
SGT Joseph Gunderson
As someone that is both a military leader and intimately involved with education, what do you believe the affects of the current political and ideological climate of universities in our country will have on recruiting qualified and dedicated leaders, commissioned officers, into our ranks? Do you think that a time may come soon where we will be forced to rely almost solely on our military academies and perhaps have to funnel NCO leadership to the commissioned route in order to fill those areas of leadership?
CPT Aaron Kletzing
Lt Gen (Join to see) -- Sir, I'm sure most of us on RP have seen the great speech you gave on the racism incident that happened at USAFA. My questions are: (1) what was it like to have your speech go so viral even outside of the US, reaching tens of millions of views across the web? (2) if you had to give that speech over again, is there anything else you would also add to it today?

Cpt Kletzing - In one word, unexpected. The cadets gave us feedback very quickly about their thoughts and the response was overwhelmingly positive, so I don’t know that there is anything we would do differently. Everything we do at USAFA is about developing Airmen and developing these Airmen into leaders. Our goal was to teach them to address issues head-on and I think we did that well. While I do wish the incident hadn't occurred, I think our faculty, staff, and cadets handled it very well. What wasn't as widely publicized is the continued and ongoing contribution of our faculty and staff to continue the conversation about the strength of diversity: each individual plays a role in delivering combat capability and making us more lethal on the battlefield. We as leaders have to be willing to address issues directly, upfront, and unambiguously especially when the issue clearly is against the core values we represent.
Capt Brandon Charters
Thanks for joining us, Lt Gen (Join to see). I saw the news recently about USAFA's new partnership with AT&T. It's great to see this collaboration with industry to ensure the USAF is innovating and addressing the future needs of the force. Do you see other key partnerships like this starting up in the near future? If so, what types of industries or organizations would be your primary focus?

Capt. Charters - We have similar relationships with other companies like Intel, Northrop Grumman, Cubic and we are always interested in exploring new partnerships. The focus of each relationship is different based on where our desires for partnership overlap. By partnering with these companies we are able to expose our cadets to industry best practices and new technologies, all while working together to develop possible solutions for current issues our military faces. Generally the current topics range from system security, autonomy, AI, data visualization, and automation. We are close to finalizing another relationship soon, so stay tuned!

Sir, Thank you for taking time to take varied questions and answer from a top leadership perspective.

I am working toward my Master's of Arts in Human Services Counseling for Military Resilience. The Institute of Military Resilience is at Liberty University, and I look forward to gathering perspectives of many in the military community who deal with issues related to "what is military resilience" and, in your wheelhouse, "how can the unit/team/esprit d'corps of all service branches, families, communities, in their diversity, strengthen resilience"?

Thank you in advance, Sir.

Spc Vinal - If I understand your question, you’re asking how we, as a military family, can strengthen resilience. We’ve all heard “get to know your people,” but I think we also have to be willing to act, ask questions, and really listen, especially when we think there might be an issue. I think the closer and more connected we can be within our circles and the more in-tune we are with our own personal feelings and/or needs, the more resilient we can be together when challenges arrive. And developing a culture of dignity and respect for everyone helps build these types of supportive relationships. One of the reasons I love my current role is that we are shaping cadets to lead our Air Force into the future, to make it their own. This includes issues like resilience, strengthening us as individuals, families and as a community. I hope that answers your question.

Sir, yes....I believe you are saying that , in the Air Force, the cadets who will be the future officer corps are being trained to develop their airmen. Commands, families with an eye towards a resilient force. Strengthening individuals from the top down and offering family readiness tasks which benefit all. Of course, respect and dignity are key. As my studies progress, I will remember your words and hope to develop effective ways to counsel those who struggle in military life and around it (ie. Parents). Many thanks for your time and insights.

Sir, thank you for volunteering your time to continue to care for the development of this nation's military. I am a soon to be 2Lt in the Marines intent on preparing myself to take care of my future Marines and our mission as completely as I can; what advice do you have for creating and accomplishing the right goals, and what are some of your goals both now and from when you were a junior officer that have best allowed you to be successful in leading your Airmen in their mission and in providing them the climate necessary to accomplish their own goals?

Michael - Congratulations and thank you for choosing to serve! Let me start by saying battlespaces are as complicated and volatile as they’ve ever been, so lieutenants must be as advanced and lethal as they’ve ever been. I would say first learn your job and become an expert at it, you must be unabashedly proud of your profession, then prepare for the joint mission because we are becoming more and more interconnected between services. Finally, deliver respect and dignity to everyone you’re around because you want to be the example that others follow.
