I am currently at Fort Stewart, GA, for some training. Shout out to those Dog Faced Soldiers! But I have been to many bases and I have never heard so many bugle calls in my life, this also includes the playing of the 3rd ID song every morning. I swear I have seen people just sprint off when they hear a call because they don't know what to do. So far I have found that this post does 13 bugle calls. Fort Bragg got nothing on this place.

It was Ft. Riley when one of the Brigades decided to have the muslim call to prayer played all the time on Custer Hill to acclimatize people mobilizing. It went away when the families started complaining.

and now any base that has plenty of streets blocked off for PT and yet still have large unit formations running 6 miles on other streets with posted speed of 35+ MPH which causes backups and delays for those units that PT earlier and have to report to work by 0800. Not to mention that they have a post policy letter that is supposed to ban such formations :cough: Bragg :cough:

That is so stupid. Hearing that nonsense play in country will make you crazy enough as it is, you dont need to exacerbate it by playing it prior to deployment, too.

Soooo, why is the military tradition of playing bugle calls annoying? Do you understand the history behind the playing of the calls? Perhaps if you looked in to the stories behind the calls, instead of thumbing your nose at them, you'd have a better appreciation for the Army's history and traditions. Maybe you could make it your mission, as a LEADER, to inform Soldiers what the appropriate actions are when the calls are played.

The same goes for the other services. Every base I was assigned to did things a little different.

I see Administrators just gang up on folks who don't agree with them...point taken...I think this will be a site i visit very little now...As the LT is condescending in his posts and replies...block what you feel you may of mine..but this is simply stating a fact. Just because you administer something doesn't make you right. ETA: I blocked him because of his apparent need to bring up his qualifications at every turn and he is condescending to anyone who does not agree with him.

Camp H.M. Smith, Halwa, Hawaii (Honolulu) in 1998. I had just reported in to my unit at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii and I was immediately put on a special detail to Support Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). Every morning I had to drive to Camp Smith and traffic was always terrible when you were heading towards Honolulu in the morning and away from it in the evening. When I got off at my exit it's a nice drive through a residential neighborhood........ UPHILL for approximately 3 miles at the posted speed limit. So It was bad on the transmission going up and bad on the brakes coming down . It was a small Navy/Marine installation speckled with other services. THE MOST ANNOYING PART......... if you are not indoors by 0730 (parking was very bad) and you just happen to be outside when the music starts playing, you have to stand in attention and salute for......... the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard songs. It sucked when it was hot in the morning and worse when it was raining!!!

I had AIT and was stationed there from late 75 to mid 77 after AIT (Radar School @ I See O Hall) and I liked it there, billeted at building 914 and it was comfortable, made some good friends and still in touch with some to this day, good mess hall and I enjoyed going out to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, Lake Elmer Thomas or Lake Lawtonka and Medicine Park. And being in a Staff and Faculty Unit (I was 17B20) was pretty relaxed duty, can't think of anything to complain about, I mostly avoided all of the bars and other usual hangouts off post, Lawton was kind of a craphole town but there were plenty of good outdoor activities to be had in the area.

The has bugle calls for different times of the day. Just like when they play one when they rise the flag the flag. Some bases have more for other events. It is a historical thing that comes from the days when commands in the Army were given over a bugle call.

CPT (Join to see) - I get reveille and retreat, but why else would you have a bugle call. So you know it is noon? Please LT that was difficult to read. You are a college graduate, I should not have difficulty reading your text.

I was using my phone at the time. I often miss a word or two. But I find it hard to believe that you were in the Air Force for however long you were in and you never found anything annoying in the military. I am not a fan of staff rides. I am not saying that the Army should stop them but they are not my cup of tea. You like insulting officers that speak open and aircraft maintenance. I like deploying as an infantrymen and being honest about my military experience. I often see how some that are sheltered can see this as being unprofessional. To me it is just a water cooling talk.

CPT (Join to see) - You asked about annoying military installations; I gave you one. How does that allude that I didn't find anything annoying in the military? But since you ask, this has nothing to do with you personally, self absorbed young officers out of the academy who think they know everything ordering Senior NCOs around and won't listen. I am sure you ran into plenty of them yourself as an NCO. Not fond of prior enlisted officers who point it out constantly; obviously had a chip on their shoulders and usually took it out on their enlisted people; not saying you are one of them.
I don't know about bugle calls, but I think my great great grandfather did when he followed Sherman as part of Kentucky's 5th Regiment-Union. Your dislike of them or perhaps just dislike of excessive bugle calls, sparked my interest. I grew up in a military family.

I was at stewart too when it was the 24th ID. We didn't have that many that we actually had to salute for. Just reveille, retreat and taps. I never heard a bugle call for chow.... that's a new one on me.
