Navy Chiefs often look down on Chiefs who cross over to the officer ranks. Are other branches similar? Why do you suppose this is?

I don't think all navy look down on Chief who cross over to officer ranks. From what I know and seen Chief respect all. But some times there are those who forget where they come from.

It's because we loose good deck plate leaders in our ranks.

It's just because officers think just because they have to college they are better than everyone else. The younger officers does not think chiefs should be allowed to cross over to an officer.

Petty Officer Whaley that is a gross generalization. I was never a Chief but I was a MM1 and an at sea LPO for many years. There is nobody better to cross over than a Chief. Senior Glazner said it right because the goat locker is losing a good deckplate leader is why the Chiefs may get mad. Now don't get me wrong there are officers out there that think they are they best thing since sliced bread and they've only been in the military since breakfast. But overconfidence is evident in the officer and enlisted ranks. It takes level headed military leaders, such as a good Navy Chief, to ensure that we train the Junior Officers with no prior military experience the proper way to conduct themselves as military leaders. My Chief still teaches me the ropes and lets me have it when I’m in the wrong and I’ve been doing this for 20 years. But I would expect nothing less. It is the JO that cannot take constructive criticism and direction from others that have a hard time.
Spent 10 yrs in the Goat Locker before moving on to be a Warrant. I often stopped by the Chief's Mess for coffee. Heard a couple of "traitor" jokes, but it only gave me the chance to dish it back (as was expected). Loved my time as a Chief/Senior Chief and loved my time as a Warrant.

I get a little of the "traitor" treatment too, going from USMC to AF. It cracks me up!
