Some of the first women serving on submarines have been filmed while in the dressing area and showering over the past year. The Navy is still investigating the case and not many details have been released. The incident took place on USS Wyoming (Gold Crew).

So far the perpetrator has only been identified as a second class petty officer (E-5) who works at the Trident Refit Facility at Kings Bay, GA.

There were at least three female officer victims. More details below in the Navy Times article.

This is pretty serious. I feel like the progress the military was making with SHARP has been set back a little.

I disagree SSG (ret) William Martin. I think this is an aberration and that overall the Armed Forces are in good shape with their efforts integrating women into Combat Arms. There are a few Neanderthals, but overall men are doing their job well and supporting their sisters.

No matter how slow and how much training and class room time you spend. There will always be that Neanderthal or as I call them Cave man mentality guy in the ranks somewhere to screw it up. Many don't get it until they end up with life in prison. These few people that make it so much harder for the us having to watch our step.

I have a very simple question for all the men who are expressing righteous outrage and declaring this a major breech of trust:

How many of you have watched the movie "M.A.S.H." and laughed at the shower scene with Hot Lips?

1LT Clardy, I find your comments disgusting and inflammatory. To insinuate men don't care is also very dishonest. Yes, YOU did specifically state "men" and "all the Y chromosome types" as if males are just philandering misogynists who view females as just a bunch of obsequious, ignorant people. As CMDCM Gene Treants alluded to, there is a huge difference between movies/TV shows/books and reality. Yes, you did state you know the difference but by the tone and verbage in your comments you clearly do not. Since you take such umbrage with TV shows, like M.A.S.H., and others that have scenes intended to be humorous then your righteousness indignation should also be directed towards "romance" novels as well as movies depicting men as being stupid incompetent neanderthals.

To answer your question, @1LT, I laughed at the M.A.S.H. scene when it came out.

Then I grew up, became the parent of a daughter, and evolved with the culture. I'd like to think that today is better than the 1950s and the 1970s, but apparently we still have a long way to go.

That's not a good example 1LT William Clardy. That was a movie, satirical in nature. This situation was an intentional breach of personal privacy, intentional stalking and on and on. I believe there's a tremendous difference between this and the movie M.A.S.H. My opinion anyway....

PV2 Abbott Shaull, Gwinn, MI, I was partially addressing a comment from another individual which pertained to teachers and then I strayed to old days. But, the situation on the submarine was never meant to be trivialized. Or by no means lessened in scope, these predators when they cross these boundaries should be held accountable to the highest and strictest laws. Sometimes people can misunderstand the true intent of a statement and I feel this may have been the case. There has never been a case where this would be good in my book.

Okay I don't I was the only one who misread what you trying to say then. Yeah bringing up school teachers and them getting slap in wrist in years past is comparing apples to oranges. Those cases were in the civilian land, not conducted withing the military where, by training we all are suppose to 'know' better, and to 'act' and 'show' the respect each other of the opposing sex. Yes flirting is bound to happen, but once the other party become uncomfortable, or says stop. Which it should never have to come to, it suppose to stop. In this case, it seems the Officer in question didn't know, which makes it worse.

You know what? To make this right, I'll let the Navy film me the shower.

Sound good?

CPT (Join to see). You are a brave man. Hate to see any Army SM shot down by the Navy . . . even if he is an exceptionally outstanding Navy NCO!!! Warmest Regards, Sandy

Not OK - just balancing our a negative vote. I don't approve of the content . . . nor do others . . . but I don't like down votes either . . . and Gene who had down voted . . . balanced his down vote out with up votes. Maybe I misunderstood? Sandy
