New Air Force Planes Go Directly to 'Boneyard'

The attached article refers the new C-27 which Congress axed because these planes are not needed and therefore the problem is they were built already and now are to be trashed. A waste of money for sure but let's be honest I am certain that some Congressional people knew of this contract.

My feelings are these planes created jobs and revenue but now they are not needed. What is your take because I do not want people to assume that active duty and Veterans are taking a hit for something they knew nothing about.

Still on track as per a briefing from the former Commander of Air Combat Command (COMACC). The Air Force is all about things that rumble and have pointy noses.

Congress wants to fly first class, and Congress paid for them, so...

They could sell them planes to private companies who could utilize them...like anyone who ships cargo.

Most likely that's probably where they will go at some point or be sold off to a foreign military.

Yeah we will probably sell them at discount and then award a contract for a company to re-certify them after the taxi into parking. :) And why don't we have TDY funds anymore?

I don't know the full story but I'm sure that it should fall under the heading of "Fraud, Waste, and Abuse". How can the military order planes it has no use for without some influence from Congress? In a time when the armed forces are facing sequestration we still have shenanigans such as this going on. It's disgusting.

My understanding is that the Air Force is forced to buy certain systems that we do not want or need sometimes. Right no w the Air Force is being told they will buy more Global Hawk UAV's as a result the Air Force is retiring the Dragon Lady.

Wasn't the Air Force forced to buy new C-17s that it didn't ask for? The Army is buying tanks it doesn't need in order to keep the assembly line open in the event that there's a sudden need for more tanks. So there's at least a strategic rationale for that. I don't think that was the case with the C-27s.
