Now that 11B MOS is open to females, should the Army discontinue to use the word Infantryman?

The Marine Corps is discontinuing using "man" in their verbiage and replacing with Marine, e.g. Armor Marine in 33 different jobs http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/story/military/2016/06/27/marines-remove-word-man-these-19-job-titles/86438594/
Is it time for the Army to change some as well.?

We should probably remove all gender identifiers from our vocabulary. Dad? Connotates oppressive white male. That one has to go. Father? Implies male role model. That one has to go. Husband? Both sexist and financial slavery. Somewhat oppressive as well. That one has to go. Son? Who am I to tell my son that he can't have dreams of being a daughter? Or a cat. That one has to go as well. We should also think about changing formal names. Daniel? It is a masculine name and means "God is my judge" - both overbearing and offensive to those that may not believe in God. That one has to go.
Infantryman? Egads, that speaks to centuries of oppression and violence. That has to go as well.
Yes, I could go on all day.

You know, sometimes it takes me a day or two to think of a good one... so please forgive me. I can't believe nobody has mentioned that the Infantry has long been known as The Queen of Battle. lol, thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week.
Infantry has been called "The Queen of Battle" for hundreds of years. Most believe it originates from the game chess. The infantry are the most essential component of any military. Just as the queen piece on the chess board, the infantry are the most powerful, decisive, and important part of the game of war.

Every MOS has a special function or role in the fight. Infantry doesn't do it alone. Tankers don't do it alone. Scouts don't do it alone. No one does it alone. We're a "team," right? It's high time we acted like one.

I definitely agree with you sir. However. I hardly see how changing the name will change anything.

SPC (Join to see) - Honestly, the problem is much larger than a name. The names are so minor, that it seems they could be ignored, but that's not how we progress. Look around and notice how many things are "-man" based. It's not a coincidence - it's historical patriarchy with a dash of misogyny. Even when our own Constitution talked about man and men, it really just meant males - because that was the society. Women were (essentially) property - couldn't vote, couldn't own land, etc. We changed that through amendments. Now, we are on the cusp of a new age of progressive equality among the sexes - and removing those historical chauvinistic markers of a flawed past will aid future generations in accepting equality as the norm, rather than as something special. Yes, certain people will balk now, but in 10 years, no one will remember the difference.

The "man at the end of titles comes from "human"
And thebprivate is correct in saying that infantrymen arent like every other MOS sure every MOS does its part. But only the infantry serves soley to destroy the enemy. And in doing so takes on alot more risks.

Why get hung up on titles? It's about function.
We're going to use the terms Grunts & Pogs. Legs & Airborne. Does it really matter if they say Infantry Specialist or Infantryman? That's administration, not operations.

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS - Every Sailor, ever. So, what, now I'm a 'Sea Specialist'? Watch what happens if they ever take it so far as to say we can't call our ships 'her'.

It is stated in numerous regulations that when gender is not outright determined by the specific point in the regulation that the using the male identifier is used. Infantryman is fine, leave it. Any females who can meet the physical and mental demands of the 11B MOS ought to be mentally resilient enough not to get offended by little things like that which have no impact on any tangible thing.

Hell no! I'm hoping it won't last long... It shouldn't take too long to prove that woman in general, with very few exceptions, physically don't have what it takes... Maybe then the powers that be will see the mistake they are making (or have made). They are unnecessarily putting lives at risk...
