Now that I'm an 89A, if I volunteered for EOD school and failed, would I be placed back in 89A or reassigned to the "needs of the Army"?

I am looking into switching MOS's. From 89A to 89D. I wanted to do 89D right out of the gate but circumstances prevented that choice at the time. My question is, now that I am MOS qualified, if I volunteered for EOD school, and didnt pass, would I then be at the mercy of "needs of the Army", or be placed back in 89A?

When it's an Application MOS like EOD you will keep your old MOS until you pass the school.

OK, to be the bearer of bad news, the Army is not likely to allow you to reclass right out of AIT unless there is a critical shortage in the other MOS. You can always ask your career counselor, but expect that the answer will be no. The Army spent money to train you, they will want their money's worth.
Now that wasn't your question. The answer to that is that the Army will generally just move you back into your previous MOS since you are already trained for that duty.

I failed to clarify, but I plan on making E5 before dropping a packet for EOD. Thank you for the reply, sir.

SGT (Join to see) The easiest time to reclass is at reenlistment time. There are still rules that you need to know on what's allowed. As an example, it's almost impossible to reclass from an under strength MOS to an over strength one. It's hard to go from one under strength MOS to another that is under strength, but possible, especially if that is what it takes to keep you. Good luck.
