I have had many uniforms. In 1980 it was green fatigues, then BDUs in 82/83... In AK we had wool shirts, pants, Arctic mittens, VB boots, Mukluks, the 3 piece parka, and over-whites... Vietnam era Jungle Fatigues at Ranger school... Chocolate chip DBUs... 3 color DBUs... Multi-cams... Dress Greens, Blues, ASUs, The ACU Digital... ACU - OCP... The SWAT suit was the goofiest... or Polizei?

At Clark AB, Philippines, 1974-76, we wore cook's whites on the flightline. Really helped due to the humidity and heat. Just as heavy as green fatigues, but alot cooler. Worked

COL Charles Williams - Maybe it was the rank armband wrapped around the leg.....but yes, I certainly agree 18 yr old Soldiers will do some silly things.

MSG (Join to see) - That was actually my SL arm band? I did so many silly and dumb things, I will rarely tell, as I would not others to do the things I did...

The current Army ASU (Army Service Uniform) is a throw back to the old Blue Cavalry uniforms, but not really practical for everyday wear today. The former "Class B", with OG green trousers and light green shirt was a good everyday uniform. I never thought that any camo pattern uniform was appropriate for office environments. Personally, I always thought the WW II "Pinks and greens" were a good and versatile everyday uniform and the Army should consider returning to them and keep the "Blues" as a dress uniform. And Cammies? Strictly for "outside use", whether it be tactical/field use or motor stables and any "fatigue" duty.

When aboard ship we wore UDT shorts, black boots, green skivvie shirt with rank pined to our shorts. We looked stupid as hell, but it was over 100 deg so it was nice.

SSgt Dan Montague yes, those shorts alone are quite odd. I guess short shorts were in at one time, but when I first Army Divers wearing them, I wondered what the frig...

Even worse, on the Tripoli, at the beginning of our time in Somalia, the MEU CO wanted to be able to distinguish the officer's from the enlisted, so we had to wear the desert utility blouse over top of the BDU shorts. It basically looked like we had forgotten our pants when getting dressed. Needless to say, we just wore the full uniform to avoid looking ridiculous.

Just what I would want, identification as an officer. No sense wasting a shot on an enlisted.

In Germany the commander would have the uniform for brigade runs be PT hat, gloves, sweat tops and shorts. I felt if it's warm enough for shorts there is no need for hat and gloves. This would prevent soldiers over heating on runs more than wear sweat pants.
