I love this one..... Arbitrarily downgraded awards due to rank have been a thorn in my side for years... That so many people have experienced it enough for a Duffelblog round to be fired made me feel better about being a not so proud member of the "many downgraded awards" club...

Awards for fighting a terrorist delayed due to not completing online AT Level one training...
Is entirely too close to the truth.

It's duffleblog. It's definitely Satire.. but the Awards system part made me laugh way too hard... and the comments about a charge sheet... I had said something eerily similar in the RP thread when the story first broke.

It could be considered satire just for the plain fact it's France. It definitely hits close to home on the foot dragging of awards though.

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS Well it's Duffle blog, so...
But if they're not ashamed of how long it takes us, they should be.

To be fair... I don't even think the French police were done beating this guy when the French President was pinning these Medals on.

SN Greg Wright and that's why you're riding shotgun when I go to hell for making that joke.

As they say, behind every good joke is a kernel of truth, and that is exactly the case here, IMHO. When I first read your title, Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS, I thought it was a true story. It is true, really. We have to have our awards in months ahead of time, and the French bested us on this one ... in a big way.

Sounds more like jealousy that two Enlisted Men kicked ASS, simply by making a decision based on mutual cooperation and taking educated chances based on team work.

Haha I find this kind of funny. To a certain extent a higher level award should have more scrutiny, but at the same time if an action is high enough for it to be merited it also should be pretty straight forward. We have way too much red tape.

Sir, I think it's exactly as you said.
There's a sort of balance. But... using this as an extreme example:
"He jumped on a grenade." It's sort of self explanatory. Not a whole lot of scrutiny needs to go into that... but... we still put A LOT of scrutiny into that.
However, in this case, the RP community made some quick assessments based on the information at the time, and for the most part they're coming true. We also made some "snarky comments" regarding the awards process, and damn it if duffleblog didn't deliver.

SFC James Sczymanski I was referring to myself, when I commented about the 1stSgt chewing their butts when they got back... and the guys saying "Who talked!" although it was also mention they would only get a Letter of appreciation max...

Ohhh... Can't tell you the level of frustration when the S-1 shop would return my write-ups with a yellow sticky note: "Please re-submit. Recommended for down-/up-grade to (fill in the blank)." Duffleblog just validated my angst.
