Going on the information provided by SSG Mirko Maravi the patch belongs to the 508 PIR attached to the 82nd Airborne in WWII. Is this the same patch?

The patch on his cap reflects 82nd Airborne Division HQ B Co of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment.<div><br></div><div>This should help you start your search. They performed a lot of operation 1939-1945.</div>

LTC Paul Labrador I think there were three "glider" patches for the WWII era garrison caps. One had a parachute and a glider, another had just a parachute and the last one had just a glider. They were worn on the left side of the cap for enlisted personnel and on the right side of the cap for officer personnel. Therefore, you had to be sure you bought the correct patch or otherwise, your glider could be facing backward!

I wore that same Airborne patch on my garrison cap until the maroon beret came in 1973 and I wasn't in the 82nd at that time.

When the 82nd Division was reorganized two new parachute infantry regiments (PIRs), the 507th and the 508th, were added to ease the integration of replacement troops, rest, and refitting following the fighting in Italy. During the June 6th D-Day assault, a 508th platoon leader, Lt. Robert P. Mathias, would be the first American officer killed by German fire on D-Day.
On October 15, 1951, the 508th Airborne Regiment Combat Team shoulder sleeve insignia was officially approved. This was the first shoulder sleeve insignia designed specifically for the 508th Infantry.
