President Obama orders 1.3 percent military pay raise next year, is this enough, do we deserve more?

Honestly, I think Government Employee Cost of Living Allowances should be set on "Auto Pilot."
They should match inflation per a specified standard, like the consumer price index, and then every Census Year (every 10 years), we do an azimuth check, to determine whether they have fallen out of line. Therefore if it is 1.8 percent in 2018, we get 1.8%. If it's .3% the following year, that's what we get. When we get to the Census, then we get Congress back involved and they go "Yup looks good" or "Skip 1-X years, because it's out of line."
When I say Government Employees, I mean ALL government employees, from the GS1 to the President, and including the military. Do we really need to spend precious Legislative time debating this every stinking year?

I agree. That's essentially what ends up happening anyway, so we might as well stop wasting time by politicizing the issue.

Well, there's millions of workers who would kill for a steady paycheck, much less a raise, so we are still very fortunate.. Plus I think we purposely ignore the regular Time In Service and promotion raises we get all the time. .

Yes there are millions who would kill for a steady paycheck and it's the same government that shoves service members to the back of the pay line behind those less deserving that is causing them to be out of work. They talk about creating jobs when, in truth, the government only stifles job growth by over taxing and over regulating business.

Don't forget that the smaller increases impact you for the rest of your career. Compound interest and all that. Plus, if you retire, it will continue to affect your income for the rest of your life.

SFC Michael Hasbun - What you say is very true. However, will you be able to make do without the second career and live on your military retirement? Maybe, maybe not. Will you be able to assume that second career without problems? Possibly, but there is also another factor out on the regular economy and job market - Age Discrimination, which is the bull in the china shop that few if any people directly talk about. Another factor is that there are the "next best field" situations like the current push towards STEM, or Solar Power Industry, what is interesting in that push is that it holds wages/salaries down in those industries and fields of work. You glut the market with trained talent, it makes it difficult for the next group to get their foot through that door.
