I have no problem with Canada nor do I have any problems with Canadians and their military. The problem I see is that Canada has had lax immigration policies. People who arrive and seeking asylum and refugee status would be allowed in and would be allowed free reign of the country. Many would then apply for asylum here in the United States while waiting in Canada. I think the problem is that over the years they saw how we did things and didn't see as much of a threat to their country and way of life because they weren't as involved in global problems as we were which allowed them a bit of a break from reprisals and attacks that would sometimes plague our citizens which some were told that if they were in trouble to claim to be Canadian.
The freedom and relaxed nature of Canada made the attacks possible. Freedom is a great thing but even here we had a relaxed posture when it came to security prior to the Sept 11, 2001 attacks. Unfortunately at some point the world likes to remind us that there are dangerous people who abuse the freedom and trust given to the people and attempt to destroy the way of life that free people enjoy. We should continue to aid Canada in any way possible and hope that we both can find ways to reduce the chance that others will attempt their own attacks against the people.

MAJ Keith Young, yes they are very lax to the point that you show up asking for Amnesty and they pretty much allow you to travel anywhere without much if any oversight. They have been even more liberal than we have been historically, there was a period early on in the involvement in Afghanistan when other countries had to give desert equipment to the Canadians including uniforms because the government had drastically cut the military to the point where it was almost comedic. I'm not justifying anything our government has said and not done to secure our country, but this should open the eyes of anyone who thinks that having an open border is a good idea.

Cpl Ray Fernandez and MAJ Keith Young Gentlemen, I would caution against over-reaction in terms of "lax posture" I accept responsibility for mine and my family's security and take actions to ensure it. I do not want a police state to protect me from terrorists. I posted an interesting article on the topic on another thread here. https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/canadian-attacks-journalism-sensationalism-and-bias

Capt Richard I P., by lax posture I mean there are ways to reduce the threat without necessarily having to move closer to a police state. There have been discussions in the past on this site regarding allowing service members to conceal carry as a means of defending themselves and others on and off post. When you have an effort to target service members, law enforcement, and others then you need to allow the people to protect themselves, and you must also increase vigilance to restrict access of those that would do us harm. Let's see we have had people who abuse our visa system like student visas.

Cpl Ray Fernandez Well said! strongly concur on military concealed carry. You still might enjoy giving the article a read.

It might be happening again right now. No word on a possible motive yet, but a soldier has been shot at a Canadian war memorial. Shots seem to have been fired inside the Canadian Parliament building too.
