I have heard that the majority of the military tend to support the Republican party, although I am sure it is not a complete landslide.

More recently it seems that the Libertarian party has gained a lot of ground among service members.

I am doing a survey to see which way people in this group lean but I would also like to hear everyone's opinions on why they like one over the other, or what would get them to change their minds, or what they do and don't like about each party.

In Nov when the Senate and the House are taken back by Democrats, allot of the Presidents policies will go through. The obstruction or say no mentality will be over. Maybe we can get Citizens United out of our politics to and restore the peoples vote not big money and corporations. To get anyone to change? The battle lines are drawn and Nov is a big battle. More obstruction or less is the question move forward as a nation or stagnate (move like pond water)for 2 more years. We are also a role model for other countries and Newly formed Democracies, they see our dysfunction and struggle just like us. I will vote for any President that champions the Citizens needs over the 1% and corporations, other wise what are we fighting for. We are not slaves.

I hope you and all others realize that the incumbents are the real enemy of the people - ALL of them from BOTH parties. It is time to replace ALL INCUMBENTS and look for Citizens to come forward and replace Politicians.

I agree, for the most part. Most of the incumbents politicians have become very comfortable in their political realm of influence. Why fix something that is going to diminish their power, influence, and financial standings. Their set. There are some who are standing up now but their fighting a battle against disinformation hate and extremisms. To me the majority of us can all get alone but because the few extremist and they are few but powerful manipulate the whole. We are in a unique position this year to really help allot of American Citizens. ALL American Citizens not just the wealthy. But there is the rub. What does the Constitution say about incumbent powers and behaviors? Try Article 1,section 5 of the US Constitution

Term limits strip voters of their freedoms.
The term limit is the informed voter. If they aren't doing a good job, remove them.
If they are serving their constituents, they shouldn't be arbitrarily removed to compensate for lazy voters elsewhere.

Moreover, lobbyists don't have term limits, so unless you want a bunch of newbies getting bullied by lobbyists, you don't really want term limits.

I Guess my biggest influencer would be my love of my fellow man. Whichever Party is exercising the most Empathy will probably enjoy my Support. During my time on Active Duty (21 years) there was still such a thing as a Compassionate Conservative. I was one and a Republican then. In todays heated politics and since the advent of FOX in 96. Republicans seem to want to tell me who to blame and hate. I don't play that game very well so now I am a registered Democrat and Campaign very actively for the Democratic Party. That might change but not in the near future.

The Political realm in the US has been moving away from what it should be for many years now. I am leaning more and more Libertarian due to the fact that both Democrats and Republicans are so far removed from the people they work for. They do what they want instead of listening to the American populace. That being said if the American populace would get more involved in politics starting with their local political realm they would be more informed on issues at the national level and cast educated votes instead of voting D or R just because that's the way they always have.

I think all the politicians now are pretty worthless....I usually side with Democrats but if I think Democrats aren't the right choice I will vote for any other person in whatever party that thinks similar to me...I also think a 2 party majority (left or right), is wrong we need a strong 3rd or 4th party as well

A 3rd or 4th party will end up being part of a 'coalition' which will resemble the current 2 party structure.
In places with multiple parties you end up with much more ideological homogeneity within the parties and a lot of overlap on most issues resulting in 'coalitions' that render the individual parties meaningless.
The left and the right are very diverse and each party has a number of smaller caucuses within them. Different ideologies within larger parties works better than the multiparty mayhem.

3rd Party always, always damages the Republican candidate. It's a pipe dream that has not been borne out in reality. People WANT a more conservative option (usually the 3rd Party candidate), but are thwarted by the Republican establishment machine (refer Mississippi elections July 2014).

I've read and received some Intel about a grassroots movement....not sure it's gained much traction. As we all have worked under the flag, you think our circle of influence would continue into the politics...however so few veterans are in politics right Now....compared to ever before. Thoughts?

I am Libertarian, but they are not "perfect" either. I was Republican, but after the way they treated the best candidate for office last time (Ron Paul) I swore off that party. I will ONLY vote for someone who I feel is the best for the job: Dem, GOP, Independant, or Libertarian. It is not throwing away your vote when you vote minor party, it makes your true vote louder.

Libertarian: Those who served or continue to serve gave up freedom to defend it. Rather Social, Economic, or Moral; we all have the right to make mistakes in our own lives. The military is the only autocratic authority I ever excepted because first I voluntered and second everyone starts at the bottom of at least one of the two rank structures.

I am a Pragmatic Libertarian.

Additional note: Reading books is a good idea. I have read books written by multiple authors of views across the political range. The hey day of both Democrates and Republicans existed when they had liberatarian (right or left) insurgents almost equal to their base.

Republics have rich donors.
But Democrates have super rich donors:
The super rich, for whom taxes is not even concern and could afford to lose 80% of their income annually, tend to support Democrates. Here is why Dems are the tools of super rich; the upper class is economic terrain that is also stratified. If multi-millionares move into the billionare status, it increases economic competion and dilutes the power of a few. The class warfare between the lower class and what actually ends up being the middle class (people who work for a living) is a distractor from what is really going on. The middle class is the base from which the upper class draw workers and consumers. If you drag down the middle class, you take down enterprising individuals attempting the reach the top and hold the goal out of their reach.

Socialist (which was not a chose in this survey) are supporting the class warfare to destroy capatilism and have even accidently helped bring about crony capitalism.

Libertarians say dam all of this mess, seperate Government from the Economy and Religion. Socialism is the opposite but the line of Anarchy is a very difficult discussion.

The biggest cons are done when any politician claims the power of the church or the power of the purse.

There is a new option. The Veterans Party of America. Centrist and solution based. Sworn to uphold the Constitution.

None of the above. I am one of the founding member of the Veterans' Party of America. We have seen explosive growth in just one year of existence. We have active parties in all 50 states and are registering voters in three. Have a look for your self. http://www.veteranspartyofamerica.org or on FB https://www.facebook.com/VeteransPartyOfAmerica

We are sick of the same old hat and are going to take Washington by storm. Take The Hill 2016!

No you don't David. According to your own site, you don't have all 50 States active. Quit trying to make it more than it is right now.
