It wasn't until after he got the crap beat out of him on Twitter and Facebook that Mayor Licardo posted a statement that blah blah blah ... Prior to that it was all about Mr. Trump's rhetoric. In the meantime, men and women beaten (some were just walking downtown), damage, etc. I should mention that Mayor Licardo has already endorsed Secretary Clinton.

Resign? Impeach? We're talking about San Jose here, people. You seriously think the citizens of San Jose disagree with their mayor? They elected him. Birds of a feather and all that...

CPT Jack Durish, I live in San Jose about 15 minutes from the location. I voted for the Libertarian who i knew would lose in 2014 as everyone running was a Dem or some other type of liberal. The incumbent, Mayor Chuck Reed decided not to run again though who I would have voted for again. I can only assume he got sick of trying to reform the SJPD and FD's pension deals which will as all others, eventually bankrupt the city.

It blows my mind that the violent "protests" arent adressed at almost everyone single one of these conventions. These officials are telling the public that its ok to assault people and damage property.

San Jose Mayor Sam Licardo blames Mr. Trump for riots, but doesn't address rioters. Should he resign?

However if everyone who was an idiot was held accountable, it would reverse the employment roles, and perhaps even create more jobs in the Department of Corrections...

Of course he should...it's ridiculous to blame Trump for the ignorance of the protestors and the fact that local "cops" refused to help. Security is not political.... at least it shouldn't be.

He should not. He also needs to address the rioters. Trump started this when he ran his mouth about how things were done before, how he would do this or that to someone, and if you get into trouble, he'll pay your lawyers fees. The last one is damn near a get out of jail free card. And right after that, the old man sucker punched a protester while he was being escorted out. So in this case and this election cycle, folks thought it was a god idea to be non PC. We're getting what we give. Both parties are wrong, all of the candidates who won't put an end to this are wrong, but it is what it is. This isn't a dem or con thing, it's all about someone stroking the flames, and when it gets too hot, they want to play innocent.

What happened is San Jose disgusts me! It is a form of domestic terrorism and all the people who think they can scare people away from their freedom to vote , speak, or support their favorite politician has another thing coming. The people to blame are the ones on the ground throwing things and the ones who could have done something but stood by and watched. I hold that mayor directly responsible. He should be brought up on criminal negligence at the very least...

What's this country coming to? Besides all that, people have a right to defend themselves from all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC.

One of the great things about our country was that we could agree to disagree at times and still live in peace. That appears to be a thing of the past. While not painting anyone or group with the same brush, now if you do not think/talk/dress/act as some determine you should, you are automatically labeled an uneducated racist. In the past, we as Americans could support our favorite candidate for public office, plant a sign in our yard, wear a button, or attend a rally. Today, those same actions could have private or public property destroyed or damaged, an individual attacked or result in a smearing via social media. While no one party is totally innocent, it appears the left who preaches tolerance has become anything but. Politics has always been a verbal blood sport but it appears that there are those who want to make it a physical one also.

MSG (Join to see) San Jose is such a politicized city, that we just cannot understand their bias. The former Mayor Chuck Reed has worked to resolve union and pension issues to no avail. SJ police followed him and made his life miserable, because he cared and attempted to do the right thing. Reed may be one of the authors of a CA ballot initiative re: public pensions.

RGR that CSM Charles Hayden Passed 7/29/2025. I had to vote for Mayor Reed when i heard his platform. Though he was unsuccessful in his attempt to reign in the pensions, he probably got as far as anyone will. Good man, sorry to see him go.

It seems a bit excessive to expect his resignation for making an incorrect statement, especially one in which he did make a statement to correct at a later time. If he was found to direct the San Jose PD to not make appropriate arrests then I would say he should resign, but if he follows through on his Twitter statement then there really is only a stupid statement by a partisan politician.

I think that it was said that the violent actions 5-10 people are not representative of a group of 10,000 at a Trump rally; I agree completely, and the Trump candidacy has garnered several million votes, so even 10,000 would not be that representative of the campaign. With that, the same consideration of the Sanders/Clinton campaigns needs to be made, a statement by a Clinton supporter is not representative of her campaign either. It would not be fair to hold Mr. Trump responsible for the statements of David Duke; I have even defended him among friends who wish to compare him to Hitler.

I agree with you on most of your well articulated points Cpl Chris Rice however, since the mayor made it clear that he was more concerned about how the city would appear versus the safety of the citizenry, we will have to disagree on this one issue.

"I can say if there was a single excessive baton blow on anyone in that crowd," Liccardo said Friday, "that would have made national news."

The police chief's assertion that "it was more important for police to hold their "skirmish line" formations than to stop individual attacks." made it clear that the SJPD tacitly allowed a mob to rule the city streets so if you were in the wrong place at the wrong time well, that can't be helped.
