Seriously Grande says "I hate America." What is wrong with young celebrities?

I understand certain poor decisions when you are young, especially when young celebrities are in the spotlight. After all, they are still trying to figure out the way of the world and their place in it. However, how can this type of indiscretion occur or be tolerated? Does this type of behavior say something about their up-bring or social influences?

I really hate that this whole thing happened. I am not a fan, but she was on her own time, with her friends, inside a private business. She had a clear assumption of privacy. This is not the same thing as posting something thoughtless on Facebook or another form of public announcement. I disagree that a business owner who installs surveillance equipment for security reasons should be allowed to release whatever he/she collects to anyone he/she chooses.
Last night I was at dinner with my boyfriend and looked up and saw a camera with clear line of sight to our table. I have no idea if it is actively monitored or collecting audio. Let’s imagine for a moment that I dropped my fork and when I reached for it, the camera got a shot down my blouse. Can the restaurant owner put it on the internet? In today’s environment, sure.
With cameras in every business, on every street corner, and in even private homes, a clear line needs to be drawn. As the military, we have strict rules about what we can collect, when, and for what purposes. Beyond that, there are even rules about how what we collect can be disseminated. If you have surveillance equipment for security purposes, it should legally be restricted to that use. If you have it for the purposes of collecting embarrassing footage, you should have to divulge that. I should be told that if I am on your property, you own any footage you capture and will disseminate it however you please. That way I know not to go inside.

I think the only place she had an assumption of privacy was in the rest room. I don't know about the surveillance tape though. They are the property of the store owner.

So you are saying that you don't even have a presumption of privacy in the rest room ? I'm was not an officer and I know I'm being filmed by security cameras and when I'm being recorded on the phone. Like I said those tapes belong to the store owner.

I apologize for doing a second post. I hate the fact that I can not add or make corrections after it is sent. If that was me, no one would care what I said. if it have been Al Sharpton or a Black Rapper or a Buffon like Laura Dunham I'm sure no one in the media would make a peep.

Youth celeberty interactions occur in a similar manner to they way society reacts to the news, the majority off emphasis is placed on controversy and negative actions. Is our society truly a place where all press is good press and this will only place her more in the spotlight?

OR people are just taking her comments way out of intended context. Every time I see Americans abroad and how they act, I hate Americans and am embarrassed by them. You know what the funniest thing about it is? You are defending her right to have and say that opinion. Don't vilify her simply because she chose to voice it and her disgust at how opulent and obese most Americans have become.

You took a very unique stance on this topic MSG(P) (Join to see). I do, and will always support the right everyone in our country has to freedom of speech. It is a founding principle that was fundamental to the birth and growth of our great nation. At the same time I defend it, I can be totally appalled by some of the things my fellow American's say and do. Personally, I too have witnessed some less than appropriate acts while traveling abroad. However, I could never say I hate Americans or America. I may be offended and perhaps embarrassed by a few individuals, but I don't have it in me to make a swooping statement based on a few folks which covers all the good people and beliefs of our great country. Thank you for your comment, it has sparked me to do a great deal of thinking on this topic.

I agree with you as well. Part of having freedoms is also having the intelligence to express those freedoms responsibly. Some people go too far. As someone else responded on here earlier, I believe Arianna thought she was in a private conversation with her friends as opposed to this female who is floating around on social media wiping her ass with the American flag. When we were granted these freedoms, people weren't taking them for granted. They had earned them and lived without them. That is not the case now, they have just come as expected like the welfare check. Believe me, it sickening but again. I'd rather see a small few abuse it than a great number lose it.

The problem with young celebrities like this is a) we keep minting them and seemingly keep giving everyone who has some sort of "talent" more than their allotted 15 minutes, b) these people become trend setters that other youth follow and in many cases try to emulate and c) the unending media feeding frenzy captures every possible moment and posts it to multiple outlets. I would like to believe as CPT (Join to see) alludes to that there should be some expectation of privacy for anyone but in today's world where every one with a smart phone is "the paparazzi" and police are expected to wear body cams, can that expectation truly be realized? Hmm...

With our ability to capture such a large portion of our lies via film or video, I am always amazed that there are not more sensational videos or pictures floating around with celebrities doing great things. You know it happens much more than the negative stuff, so what does the frenzy over controversial or appalling acts say about our society today?

Just like the rules we follow, where and when you can surreptitiously record and what you can then do with the recordings should be regulated. This already exists in a limited way for phone recordings (with regards to admissibility), hence why you are warned when a conversation might be recorded “for quality assurance.” Cameras are everywhere and I can see that you can't prevent the recording if there are legitimate reasons for it, but dissemination shouldn't be a free for all.
