No. Men are responsible for their actions. We do not need another Article, and the military will not ban marriages.

Nope, they, 18, are really quick witted mostly emotional testosterone led apprentices, not to be allowed the responsibility, or allowed, the responsibility, of taking command of a Navy Combat Ship, or Marraige, like a seasoned Salty Leader who signed off on some basic PQS for such a leadership position. Leadership positions, Partnership positions such as marriage, equal to a shipmate or battle buddy, need some objective non emotional PQS Vetting. Yes 16 yo's if you allowed them by law, could volunteer to join the military and also get married start a family, but possibly not logically ready, just because they are able to say yes as opposed to no. So I second that opinion create UCMJ Article 147

PO3 Aaron Hassay - The military will not ban marriages, and would not try because it would not stand. At some point, you have to take responsibility for your own actions. Do you also want to ban marriage of civilians until they are 20?

PO3 Aaron Hassay - Sgt (Join to see) No one is giving an 18 year old command of a Navy ship.

My brother got married shortly after he enlisted, after IET she was still there and still is. I'm not sure we need a new article. Maybe just communication with younger Soldiers on how they should be cautious.

PO1 John Miller - Got a few deployments out of your pants, before settling down..HOORAH!! (sorry for bad sense of humor) Did you enlist when you were 18? I can not recall. Do you remember all those guys getting ready to get married after boot?

Ah, that we could all postpone big decisions until we are a bit more seasoned! Unfortunately, we mostly become "seasoned" and smarter by making bad decisions, learning from them, and picking ourselves up and trying not to make the same ones again. At least I did.

How many times have I heard "If a person is old enough to die for his/her country he/she is old enough to (drink, smoke, vote, etc)"
The same applies to this idea.

You are wanting a new Article in the UCMJ to make it punishable when young SMs get married?

Adults should not be regulated in such a way. Part of the fun of being 18 is making a ton of mistakes and learning from them. All experiences good or bad help to shape who we are today. If a young military person gets married too young and it implodes then they learned what not to do.

No. The arbitrary age we've agreed to, except Nebraska and Mississippi, is 18.
