Yes, but don't hold your breath.
Nor the reduction, limitation, elimination of lifetime pensions for serving just ONE term

I am a firm believer that Congress should not get pay increases as long as the military and civil service are not. Additionally, I believe that Congress should not get a full pay retirement after 8 years in office. They should get one years pay and out the door. If they manage to stay there for 20, then a retirement might be warranted.

The 27th Amendment to the Constitution states "No law varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened". They do get to vote on their COLA, they should get the same COLA that the SS gets. Don't see this on getting overturned anytime soon, it only took 200 years to get it ratified. Semper FI.

MGySgt James Forward If you're gonna start prudently throwing about things like the Constitution you're gonna suck the fun out of my reckless statements.

Yes. I also believe they should have the same retirement and healthcare options that the Military does.

Everyone is all hung up on Congressional pay. I agree it is kinda out there on the high end of OMGness. Still, their pay is nothing compared to their pay per play opportunities. I have a plan to eliminate the influence of outside money.
These steps are designed to equalize the influence of each member in each house.
1. The Congress and Senate should be term limited.
2. The sitting Congress and Senate should have their personal assets frozen while serving. These assets should be placed in the trust of a government public accountant/ investment professional reflecting the G rate of the TSP.
3. The sitting Congress and Senate should have to live on their allotted pay in their positions.
4. No outside fees can increase the income of the sitting representatives.
5. The only way for sitting representatives to increase their income would be to invest in the current market like everyone else.
6. Every law that is passed must apply to the representatives in Congress and the Senate.
7. After leaving the service of the people, no former Representative nor Senator should be able to attain personal employment in a position that corresponds with sitting members for a full term limit after they leave office.
I challenge @John McCain to present and pass a better reform before I have a chance to vote against him.

I also see the equalizing focus behind this proposed move. Soldiers who live on base, or on base in the barracks, forego their BAH while married Soldiers are able to profit from additional pay in some budget arrangements. As much as I hate to say that taking any possibly negative pay changes might make sense, this one might have a basis in solid business accounting. Yes I will still grumble about it. Yes I still support major changes in congressional compensation as a total reform.

SSGT- At one time Congress could get prior knowledge of stock moves, who was coming out with stock and it was legal for them to buy when the rest of us would go to jail. Advanced trading or buying of stock is what I guess I want to say. Then it was voted out. Did I read that some how they can still do it. Hillary made $100000 on $5000. Obama 's worth was 2 million when he went in office and now it's reported it's $12000000. SSG, we are in the wrong line of work.

MSgt John McGowan - It's the outside sources of income that are the real problem. The pay check from the government is tipping money to them.

MSG Congress should do a lot of things they don't do. Remember they vote for their own benefits and pay. To answer your question, yes they should but they are so far out of touch with you and I that the most importment thing is re-election.

I don't agree with career politicians nor do I agree with them getting a retirement.
