Should we remove combat patches to be sensitive to those who don't have them?

"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get hurt feelings.
Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

Gentlemen, you're in (Unit Name Withheld), NOT a college campus. Wash the sand out and grow up.

That is pure garbage! I thought this was fake until it was confirmed, and I cannot wrap my mind around the idea of WHY higher echelons are enforcing that unit to remove patches because of hurt feelings. Since when did the army care about hurt feelings?! That unit earned their combat patches just like thousands of others have earned by going to combat, and now a bunch of whinny FNGs come along and the higher ups make a decision to make them feel part of the unit? Send their asses to Iraq or Afghanistan and then they will earn the right to wear a patch. This is absolutely crazy!

I think this is counter productive. We want our Soldiers to be proud of there Service. This is like Saying we shouldn't give out awards because it might make those that don't get them feel bad. We want to give our newer Soldiers something to strive for. We want the Soldier to say "hey, I don't have one of those. How do I get one." We don't want them to say "hey, I don't have one of those so take it off.

Combat patch is been a tradition for decade, if the unit you deploy with decide to gave you a deploy patch, then good but if not, just deal with it. I personally think we should not change/remove combat patch.

Army has too many things decorating their uniforms to begin with. What is the purpose of these badges and does it have a discernable positive benefit to the army? If not, then discontinue them and put effort and money elsewhere.

Is this a new episode? I recall something similar awhile back about the same thing.
