Should we remove combat patches to be sensitive to those who don't have them?

"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get hurt feelings.
Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

I spent two years in a combat zone and the patches I received I earned and am proud of them. I believe those that don't have them by seeing mine might inspire them to push themselves but not necessarily push for a combat assignment. I sincerely hope we never have to send our soldiers into harm's way again but we should always be ready.

Sounds like a leadership issue. The leadership needs to educate these Soldiers. Wearing of an SSI-FWTS or the lack of one, doesn't make one any better or less of a Soldier. In my opinion this should be left up to the Soldier if they want to display wear their SSI-FWTS as according to AR 670-1. What about these Soldiers feelings? Being away from home for long periods of time, the dangers, the sacrifices of their families, the damaged families because of multiple deployments, some who even made the ultimate sacrifice and those who lost brothers and sisters in arms and the same for the families left behind to mourn. The SSI-FWTS represents more than , "I was deployed with whatever unit." Educate these Soldiers before we bring feelings into the mix. The issue of catering without educating is too systemic of a problem.
My 1st deployment as a SGT/E-5 was with a few Vietnam vets. That patch meant the world to them, so much that they even had it tattooed on their shoulder. If they were still serving, tell them to remove their patches and see how that works out for you.
We need to educate on traditions and the reasons why the Army does things.

While we are at it, why don't we remove name tape and the military branch from the uniform as well? That way if one SM screws up, every military branch must suffer for it. Also, this way we can be sensitive to SMs that are not in the Space Force.

All this does is too bring up other issues, like the CIB etc, is cr, etc.

You fought for it, you wear it. The newbies will be facing situations soon enough. Of anything, they should be looking to you for guidance so they dont find themselves in a situation they don't know how to get out of, or know how to respond to.
Left out,... they better start growing a pair real quick. War is Not a game.

The patch show that you was in a combat zone. For years I wanted one until I had it!

What is with all this pandering to these kids? This is not juvenile sports activities. These people have to grow up and recognize they are not entitled to everything, medallions and awards are earned not just given to soothe feelings.

No. You earned that combat patch and you should be someone that the new guys should look up to. I know I did and I had a little more respect for combat vets I served with.

Hell no. I would've been one w/o a patch. Folks should be proud of what they've earned and others should respect what has been earned by others, rather than be jealous or feel left out. This is one step removed from military folks no longer wearing ribbons, medals, etc. What of jump wings when an airborne soldier is stationed among mostly non-airborne? It would get ridiculous and I don't see it as promoting cohesiveness and teamwork, but, rather, perhaps causing resentment of those who earned the badges.

They'll be alright. Smh stems from the new gen "everybody gets a trophy" new wave crap. In my days you lost you ate it (Wasn't always sweet) but wasnt supposed to be that way next time around you would try harder to try not to taste DEFEAT.

LOL...!!!
Again, this comes from the attitude of a generation or more of children that were raised to all get 'participation awards' without any real competition for an award.
Combat patches are issued to those who face something beyond a regular 9-5 day (or in the military a 5-9 day)...
If the rest are that interested in getting shot at;
... they can patiently wait until they get sent into someplace nasty for 12-18 months, go through what a deployment like that entails, and actually earn something that all of the others will then want to go to the PX and purchase for themselves to show off to their girlfriends or boyfriends later on.
I have a sign on my back porch from one of my last units...

If you have one or many right shoulder combat patches as well as deployment awards to CBS to CIBs to Airborne to Air Assault badges if YOU EARNED IT YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO WEAR IT and all those who remained in the rear with the beer should be proud of whatever their contributions and support was...stop trying to make everyone "feel" special
