"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get hurt feelings.
Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

Apply this thought to any other award and see how silly it sounds. "Gee, I haven't been in long enough to have a Good Conduct. They should do away with them because this makes me feel 'left out'." "Why does that guy get a Bronze Star and I don't? They shouldn't have those, since not having one makes me feel 'left out'."

You are BSing Me Right. Who would even think this Shit Up. I wore the Big Red One on my Right Shoulder for 21 years of my 23,\. Even after the Army went to Subdued Had a Lot of CSM's tell me to replace it, Never Did, and was never Ordered to Just Recommended. always responded with " I served in the Big Red One not the Big Black One.. My Army is Going to Hell in an Hand Basket.

Although I understand how they feel, removing the patch does nothing but put a bandaid on a sucking chest wound. OK lets take off the combat patch from the combat uniform. What will happen when they have to wear their dress uniform for an inspection? Instead of it being the combat patch, it will be the fact that they have no awards or decorations. When you enlist in the military your uniform is usually bare, at least it was when I came in. One of the things that made me work harder than most is to excel, do more, and stand out. I received awards, I got deployed and my uniform soon was filled up with awards. To the point where I was just begging them to give me a pat on the back, those things get kind of expensive after a while.
There comes a time when the Army needs to stop playing politics, and start remembering they are in an occupation that should not have politics in it. When I was enlisted I was not a democrat or republican. I was not white or black. I was not gay or straight. I was a part of a long history, of brothers and sisters. Whom fought alongside each other. They failed or succeeded as a team. When they failed they consoled themselves as family would. When they succeeded they celebrated with each other. Some of my brothers came back to a grateful country, while others came back to a not so grateful country.
Like all families my military has its bad/dark side that has done wrong. They call it the 10%. I can't exclude them from this. They are the ones that wanted to change the way the Military did business by doing the wrong thing. All that being said when we enlisted we had one thing in common. We started from the bottom and there was only one way to go. The ones whom are complaining about a patch did not get asked to go serve, they volunteered to go serve. If they wanted to receive a trophy for participation, they should have stayed at home.

The BCT commander must have gone through basic training back when they issued the trainees those stress cards to show their drill sergeants when they were stressed. Maybe he also wants his soldiers to removed all their awards when in dress uniform to be sensitive to those who doesn't have any. And while being so stupid, maybe the commander should remove his rank off his uniform to be more sensitive to his lower ranking officers, because they haven't attained his rank yet. PC is now getting into the military to much.

The Air Force has combat units. Disparaging other services isn’t very mature.

I am having a really hard time believing this is a serious question but I suspect it is. The "sensitivity" logic being set forth assumes that some 19-year old's momentary, flighty emotions are at least equal in significance to the suffering and fear and death of combat itself. That is an insult my friend. That kid you're describing may feel left out. Got it. But the patch or medal or badge or beret or whatever it is we're proposing to hide, was given specifically because of what it represents. And it represents something in the grown-up world that has real meaning. Am I trivializing the emotions of the young? Yes - because next to the reality of war, said emotions are trivial indeed. By the reasoning you're setting forth do we ban the wear of medals apart from those 2 or 3 BS ones that everybody gets? Like I said, this can't be a serious question...

so? what is the Army going to cater to Politcal Correct ignorance? Maybe whoever is promoting this idea should also take his medals and stripes and wear a private's uniform to make sure these new recruits are also not offended.
combat patches, rank, medals, badges are eraned, often by givin up life, limbs and time with our families.
new soldiers need to be lead to look up to the veterans and earn all that goes on their uniform and records. We cannot cuddle and bend to the meritless snow flake society that is undermining our nation

Lol! I bet they do. These are the entitled kids we handed trophies to for being loosers in a football games. No one to blame but our generation.
I remember when I first got in, back in 97’. I looked in envy at those very few who had them. Looked up to them and respected them more. I looked at the Ranger, SF tabbed guys and thought, I want one too. The difference was, I knew I had to work for it and they don’t come easy.

The military isn't a liberal elementary school where every child receives a trophy for showing up. New guys are always new guys and they have to do the things they need to do by learning their duties, responsibilities, and expectations. You don't get recognition for what others have done and experienced. The whole thought is really stupid......I guess a lot of the new guys are non-hackers these days with unreasonable expectations. I fear for the Rebublic...

Might as well remove all your ribbons on you dress/service uniforms too, except for the ND and GWOT... What a joke.

If you earned it, wear it. Otherwise, how will the greenhorns know who to go to for advice and guidance on how the REAL world works?
