With the fight for equality in the military and the recent decision by the Army to open combat arms MOS's to women in the Army, being so much in the news and discussion, do you think that women of the required Selective Service age group should be made to register as their male counterparts are?

Speaking of draftees that stayed.

Last continuously serving draftee retires after 42 years of service
As the cold wind blows on a crisp and calm morning in South Korea, a voice echoes, Get Ready! Get Set! Begin!
To keep it simple. With the current age of equality and fields opening up to women, why not or just abolish it all together. In times of great need, the volunteers will roll in as in times past.

No, with the military wanting to downsize service members there would be no need to, why build up a reserve of women, when the military will be getting rid of troops in the next three years. The women that are in don't need to be no where near infantry units. God didn't make them equal to men, the government did. Men can't have babies, but for you liberals send them off to war to get killed or come back messed up in the and the VAMC claim they were already messed up in the head and give you some pills so that you will go off and shoot yourself, no babies can be produced, no production of babies to serve the military in the future there goes the demise of this country, unless we invent robots to fight for America.
I think we cover enough with males registering for selective service that would preclude females from doing it as well. If we had to dip into the female population for a draft, we would be in serious trouble. Not taking anything away from the female population, but with as many males that must register at age 18, there should be no need for females to do the same.

Registering of females in the name of equality is fine; drafting of females is a long way from society's norms at this point in history. It has always been the case that child-bearing and child-rearing are essential to take into consideration when a draft has been imposed. As long as females are not being restricted and given the option to serve in any capacity, I see the equality issue being served with a "registration/yes; draft/no" scenario.

If genders are truly "equal" as we are constantly told from all angles, one gender (women) should not be held in higher esteem or given preferential treatment. It is currently illegal to not hire a job applicant because they are female. However, if world war 3 breaks out, those same females won't be expected to defend their country unless they choose to. Either be blind to gender or not. Hypocrisy is not an option.

CW2 Pamela (Carpenter) Summers, Why would you register an individual if they are not touchable
Absolutely. Men are currently required to do so before being considered for any federal or state employment. All things being equal in the military now, limiting the requirement to only males is outdated and, by current standards, sexist.
ABSOLUTELY! The biggest form of gender based discrimination is ONLY forcing Males present in the US at 18 (legal, illegal, that's right illegal aliens are required to register for the selective service between 18-26) to register for the Draft! Women can serve in in Work of National Importance (read "non-armed forces" service) until we have removed the combat prohibitions completely against their gender. I know families that have only male children of draft age, as well as the opposite. How is it fair to tell an all male, draft age family (sons between 18-26), that your children are at risk of being drafted and their gender mirror family of all female draft age children, you are not at risk at all??? The pain of the draft must be spread out between gender as well as class. Yes, we do have different socio-economic classes here in the US and the Middle class and Poor are disproportionately serving in the military. The rich and upper class are most MIA when it comes to military service. My first cousin and my brother in law all have three girls each in their families and are completely safe from a potential draft. This is incredibly unequal and unfair. The last 13 years plus of GWOT have fallen disproportionately on young men and their families as it has on all of America's wars since our founding as a Nation.

Past history of the draft in the US has shown that when the draft is being used, there are more than enough women volunteers to fill the ranks of the WAC, WAF, WAVES, WAM and SPARS. The reason so many females are detailed to other branches now, is to make up for the lack of male volunteers. Many though were fiercely loyal to the WAC. A friend of mine, a WAC 1LT*, said she would stay in the WAC until it was gone. I said that she could detail to AGC which would fit her usual job of Post Protocol Officer and she said no. She was a Captain when discharged as one of the last WAC officers on AD.
*She got a direct commission to 1LT because of her number of years experience as a school teacher when she applied to the WAC. The more years the higher your rank up to Captain, as I recall.

No. The Selective Service should be entirely abolished. There is nothing in the history of the United States to suggest that a conscript Army is either good for the nation as a whole, or that we cannot make do with an all-volunteer Army. If a draft is needed to fight a war, then we have already lost it.
SFC Kenneth Hunnell
Take a history lesson, the union would not have won the war with out conscripts, not everyone in the union army volunteered
MAJ Ronnie Reams
The United States Army in WWII would have had a big problem, smaller than the projected end strength for the US Army now. It was the Army of the United States with help from the US Army that won the war!
I kind of think they should, but I also think it's a moot point...by the time something gets bad enough that our civilian leadership is willing to institute another draft, women will already be fighting an enemy in our own country.
I vote no. I'm not against women in the military, I just don't think it should be mandatory for them should the need arise.
SFC Kenneth Hunnell
I really wouldn't want anyone drafted, it is bad enough to look for the enemy to try and kill you. It is worse to wonder if the soldier next to you will be there when needed. While it can happen even with soldiers that volunteered. But, to have someone that didn't want in in the first place. I don't know.
I understand the mind set of taking care of the family.

They are no more cowardly than RAs. I do not know where this type of thinking comes from. Talk to folks who have fought with them. Not many WWII vets left, but a fair number from the Korean and Viet Nam conflicts around.

Alvin York was drafted into WWI, and, despite being a Conscientious Objector, he went on to be awarded the MOH. Pretty much all soldiers want to get the job done and go home. This may be even more true of draftees, who are civilians at heart.

Women, or not men I don't care what anyone says about equality, no draft let those volunteer who wants to go. Women will lose both ways in this deal, I never heard of a POW male being raped. Secondly, after going to war, she could be shot, and cannot reproduce babies, or PTSD and other injuries could be a problem with taking high doses of medication for not being able to cope in life. The Word says for a women to be fruitful and multiply the earth. If a women can't multiply, how will she produce male babies to go to future wars. Unless we invent computer robots to fight American battles.
I say yes; equality doesn't mean getting all of the benefits and receiving none of the consequences. You cannot say you have the right to do something without carrying any of the obligation.
