Here's the background. You are an experienced Soldier. You walk in to the commissary to see a young 2LT shopping with a headset on. You professionally and politely get the 2LT’s attention and address the deficiency. They blatantly are rude, dismiss your comment, and tell you that those rules do not apply to him as an officer. Whether you are an Officer or Enlisted, how do you react?

I would brace him and make an example of him. Yes, praise in public, but sometimes an attitude needs a public adjustment. Good for the enlisted troops to see once in a while

Make note of his name, time/date, location, etc. Generally one can find an officer's unit of assignment. From there, I'd call someone of my equivalent rank and let him know what happened while providing a written statement. with contact information.

I would ask him what unit he was in and call the 1SG. Standby and wait for his 1SG and CO to show up and enjoy the show

MAJ (Join to see) In the world on the spot the corrections, junior officers can be the worst at walking the walk. Some don't get it... whether it is what referenced, or say pumping gas in uniform with no headgear... And, when confronted, they try to avoid being called out... or bow up...

Nevertheless, you make a professional correction. If they blow you off, assuming you are subordinate in rank, you record their name and unit (or ask to see their ID card...) and report them - along with what you tried to do, and what was said - to your/their chain of command at the point at which the patch originates - brigade, division etc... I am sure, leaders at the brigade and higher level would love to deal with the LT or CPT who doesn't walk the walk. I most certainly would and did.
