Star Wars vs Startrek; Borg Attack Death the Star { Re-edited version }
The Borg engage the Empire in a large space battle and attempt to assimilate the Death Star into the collective, while the Borg Queen tries to negotiate with...
I was reading SSG Michael Hathaway's comment and got to thinking. What were the best space combat scenes you ever saw in either one?
My top three are:
1) Death Star attack - classic
2) Star Trek DS9 - Sacrifice of Angels
3) Fan made "Borg attack the Death Star" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nK3y7UMDrtI)

both have their flaws and good points but for me the hardest thing to sell on star trek is humans giving up the "its all about me" mentality. I cant truly see us as a species accomplishing this.

I'm an Original Star Trek fan. Giving my age away as a Grandpa when I saw the first one on Regular Programing.

PO1 Joseph Silvers
Some things are just timeless...my granddaughters like many of the cartoon series, some westerns, etc. popular during my childhood...in fact, they just discovered the old "Our Gang/Little Rascals" shorts that I also enjoyed as a child, which were made 10-15 years before I was born!!! (YUM-YUM...eat 'em up!)

8 years old when Stark Trek started. Star Wars came out about the time my Children were born. Wonder what my Grandchildren will lay claim too.

MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca
The greatest part of both is being able to share them with my kids and seeing their awe and wonder at 40/50 year old iconic classics that mean as much now as they did for us. "The Next Generation" - boy did Gene know what he was talking about!!
On a side note PO1 Joseph Silvers As you alluded to, my kids love the Honeymooners, The Flintstones & the Three Stooges - you so can't beat the classics

Well, you would have to update the options since ST has been rebooted thanks to JJ. And SW has the expanded universe, which has now been wiped clean by Disney (grumble!!)
Bah, I'm a fan of all...even the poor acting but good stories of DS9.

I've always liked both, but it's of course a longer answer.
The original Star Wars trilogy (now known as 4-6) was by far the better. Why? Two reasons. First, friction. What do I mean? Life is messy, complicated, people have mixed motives, money matters, good intentions and bad execution. It's about as real as you can get with magic (the force). Second, Star Trek was too heavily politically/socially focused. Still good stories, especially as I watched them as a kid, but as an adult, the moralizing gets in the way of the yarn. Star Wars in also moralizes, but it does it in an entirely different - transparent and relevant to the central story way. (For the record, since I hear this about once a year, no the original Star Wars was not a allegory of Reagan/Bush, etc. It came out first.... just sayin')
However, the Star Trek reboot has answered my criticisms above quite well. The Star Wars new trilogy (i.e. 1-3) suck .... well, let's just leave it at they suck. As do the re-releases. Just for the record, Han shot first, and it makes a difference to the whole character's development.
Conspicuously missing from the list are Firefly (the best in the history of ever) and BSG (first OK, reboot in a tie with Firefly). Both win because of great story lines, engaging universe, engaging characters, and friction.
