With the recent amount of stolen valor it is hard to keep up with all the different threads being posted here on RallyPoint. From this point forward if you have a stolen valor question, comment, and or post, then add it here. The posts that currently exist will stay, as we don't want to lose the already existing discussion content. If you have started a stolen valor post prior to this and wish to have it merged to this one then feel free to let me know and I will merge that for you. The initial post will be gone but the discussion content will be merged to this posting.

That is about as legit as an Wife of a wealthy Nigerian Lawyer giving you money to hold while she tries to flee from political prosecution.

Haha I love these guys. You know, it really isn't that hard to figure out how the uniform is supposed to be worn. If they are gonna do it, they should at least be good fakes. I get more disappointed by the lack of effort and creativity than the act itself...We can't solve stupid people, even with violence, so I guess they are good for entertainment. The people who fall for this solicitation might be equally dumb, but it does suck that some oblivious and generous people are duped by the shit birds. It also kind of shocks me that with the number of veterans out there, especially in law enforcement, no one called this out in public. Whatever. Their facebook page is private or I would have had fun with that.

the most infuriating thing about these asshats (can we say "asshat" on rallypoint? HA, just did) is that unless they are attempting to actually receive benefits due a veteran/service member they are not committing a crime.

However, whatever this moron says or does in his "poser suit" now reflects on the military he is not actually in.

Why is impersonating a uniformed service member (outside of a lame Halloween costume) not punishable at all?

actually wearing pins like that without proper paperwork and not in full uniform is against the UCMJ so yeah it is a crime whether u see it as it is or not. hell no pens, wearing the hat inside a building not on official military business, no unit patch...yeah i would say he is in the wrong

Being subject to UCMJ would require the individual to have actually been in the military at some point. I am not sure, but I assume that after you're out of the military, and complete with your IRR time, and not a retiree/receiving benefits, you are no longer subject to UCMJ at all.

impersonating a Soldier is not a crime. The only US law (not UCMJ) concerning this is the stolen valor act of 2005. The original proposal of the law DID include punishment for anyone impersonating a US Service Member, but it was deemed unconstitutional over some first amendment twist of "freedom of expression". The law that finally made it through only deems these idiots punishable if they seek a tangible benefit that is normally due their claimed service or award. Unfortunately the attention of others and getting laid is not considered "tangible" in this case. Sorry, SPC Ridings, crime: yes, PUNISHABLE crime: sadly not.

I don't always steal valor. But when I do, I wear an ACU ISAF patch and no combat patch.
And seriously, I have never worn my collar like that, never.

Reason's to have your collar in that fasion is to help with cold weather and to keep hot brass from jumping down your top.

I've seen it at Fort Pickett, Fort AP Hill, JBLM, and Yakima Training Center. Some who forgo the combat shirt wear collar up around Kabul, BAF, and Morehead.

Its all over the Stolen Valor website. It turns out he did serve, but briefly and I mean very briefly. The "Wounded Veterans Working.Org" charity he claims to be benefiting Veterans is legit according to the State of New York. William Westbay did step down from the charity as he claims he only meant to wear the uniform to "honor someone" he knew. Yeah right, and lets be a bigger douche canoe, by tattooing "Ranger One" on your neck. Yeah I'll be warning my NY friends not to donate to that charity. Maybe some of the locals in Lake Grove, NY may donate but thats on them. I just want to reach out and throat punch this guy something fierce....just saying

I love calling out all those imposters, there seems to be more and more walking around these days disgracing the well prepared uniform we all strive to wear everyday with pride because we know we are serving a purpose, and back home we have guys putting on a uniform that looks like a hot bag of garbage embarrassing us all just to get a discount on a meal or just to get that glorification knowing that people are looking at you and thinking you are a bad ass. I mean if they are dumb enough to steal Valor at least try and actually do research on uniform regs and duty stations / assignements lol just sayin.

And as far as making E-5....I made E-5 in 1 year 11 months, so it is a fact. Then went on to pick up MA1 in 4 years. Now im sitting pretty at 6 years in the Navy, 24 years old and hopefully about to take Chiefs exam come January if all goes well in November haha.. Anything is possible folks!

The only way I know of to get 2nd class in two years is to do what I am going to do in six month. Be a nuke and star reenlist at the two year point. Auto e-5.

Wow...just came onboard...if we spent the effort that I have just read on actually fulfilling our oath...pulling our heads out of our normalcy bias rears...and protecting and defending our Constitution for our children's future...I might get involved. Goodness we are lost at sea...does anyone not see what is going on in our country...we are Rome...the horde is in the gates...and we spend our time...worrying about gay wads trying to be cool.
