With the recent amount of stolen valor it is hard to keep up with all the different threads being posted here on RallyPoint. From this point forward if you have a stolen valor question, comment, and or post, then add it here. The posts that currently exist will stay, as we don't want to lose the already existing discussion content. If you have started a stolen valor post prior to this and wish to have it merged to this one then feel free to let me know and I will merge that for you. The initial post will be gone but the discussion content will be merged to this posting.

Hollywood...in the movies, military uniforms are off. If they are corrected our enemies may copy these actors. There usually is a military liaison assigned or attached to the film maker.

That "Hollywood purposely makes mistakes on uniforms because they have to" stuff is a myth, same as the old, "you cant shoot enemy personel with a .50 cal MG" one is... They get it wrong because they don't follow the regs either. Check AR670-1 for info on actors and the wear off Army Uniforms..

I am just a private and I am not going to act like I know a damn thing about what is all wrong with this uniform outside of the sunglasses and toothpick, however, I find this a good time to be educated on what is completely wrong with this picture

PFC Cedric Powell ,

Other than his uniform inconsistencies, this guy actually visited families of Fallen Soldiers to pay his respects in an "official" capacity...

OAN: Good on you to be engaged with Rallypoint at this early point in your career. It can help you network with other military members, for advice and even assignment opportunities.

Being 20 years out of service... I am not sure that I would still know all the (current) dress codes. But I bet that a faker would know them better than me.

Reading this post reminded me of a toad that did go to prison for this kind BS. The guy's name is Michael Anderson, he owned a surplus store in Moriarty NM. I met him once at his shop when passing through just out of curiosity to see what kind of stuff he had. I remember looking at him being complete bullshit before he even got caught doing this. He was wearing a Marine Corps baseball cap with a Navy Seal Trident badge and wearing Captains bars on it. The thing that caught me off guard was that first Marine can't be seals. OK maybe he was prior Navy at first.

Nope he claimed that he was part of a special elite Marine Sniper unit that was allowed to be a trained as seal under some BS presidential order that allowed marines to be frogman in Vietnam. He claimed there was a shortage of Navy personnel to become seals. The other alarm bell was that the Captains bars he was wearing were of the type that the Army and Air Force uses. The Navy/MC Capt/LT bars are flat and the crossbars are inline making a perfect square versus our railroad tracks.

He tried to justify this by saying he that the bars were the ones he had while serving as a Captain in the Army guard after "Nam." Then he further claimed he actually was a Lt Col in the NM Guard but he has more pride in his previous Marine status hence wearing his O3 rank on the hat. I had enough of him and left. Well I was anout to make an official inquiry into this when a few weeks later tada!

He got 18 years in prison while trying to get on Kirtland AFB to buy surplus items at DRMO in addition he was a felon with firearms like the guy in the above story.
