I've never asked this question, and I've never seen anyone else ask it, but I'm curious. What do you say when someone thanks you for your service?
My Military ID is right next to my driver's license and debit card in my wallet, so it's visible if I have to show my driver's license for something or if I'm taking my debit card out to use. Very often, someone who sees it will ask what branch I was in. Then they will thank me for my service. My usual answer is "Thank you for your support." But I'm curious about how others respond to that.

SPC Matt Ovaska - How dare you give us honorable combat Vets a bad name. We were supposed to be killing enemy combatants. Do you know there is no statute of limitations for murder, which you have just admitted to? Somebody needs to look into this as I am not an attorney or police.

In that case we should lock up the pilot of the Enola. He should be arrested for killing all those folks in WWII. My dad was in the winter war in 1939. He ran across a Russian soldier in the woods. He took his rifle and told him to leave. The Fins killed 1,000,000 Russians in 5 months. He never bragged about being a combat vet. There is a big difference between murder and killing. The 6th commandment does not say Thou shall not kill. It says thou shall not murder. Big difference.

I am always humbled when I am thanked for my service. I always say "thank you, it was my honor to serve."

I normally respond, “I was honored to serve” or something to that effect. And I truly mean it, because it is an honor and there are many who can’t.

MSgt (Join to see) My response is usually, “I had a great time”. Given another moment, I say, “I was fortunate”
