I've never asked this question, and I've never seen anyone else ask it, but I'm curious. What do you say when someone thanks you for your service?
My Military ID is right next to my driver's license and debit card in my wallet, so it's visible if I have to show my driver's license for something or if I'm taking my debit card out to use. Very often, someone who sees it will ask what branch I was in. Then they will thank me for my service. My usual answer is "Thank you for your support." But I'm curious about how others respond to that.

Considering I did 6 years in the peacetime reserves, I really don’t know how to respond. I usually just say, “You’re welcome.”

But at one time in my life, I wrote Uncle Sam a blank check. I can’t control how he cashes it.

My usual response is that it “it was an honor to serve my Nation and ready to do so again if needed.

Everyone gets to be stupid once....just took me a long time to figure it out

I was young, I did a lot of stupid things, wearing my country's uniform was not one of them, although I would probably have disputed that at the time. What amazes me is that I'm old now (81) and still find myself doing or saying stupid things. I think I have to reevaluate what I think is stupid and try to cut down on the numbers.

I normally respond, “I was honored to serve” or something to that effect. And I truly mean it, because it is an honor and there are many who can’t.
