I've never asked this question, and I've never seen anyone else ask it, but I'm curious. What do you say when someone thanks you for your service?
My Military ID is right next to my driver's license and debit card in my wallet, so it's visible if I have to show my driver's license for something or if I'm taking my debit card out to use. Very often, someone who sees it will ask what branch I was in. Then they will thank me for my service. My usual answer is "Thank you for your support." But I'm curious about how others respond to that.

A simple "it was my pleasure to serve".

I largely respond the same way. Normally with a simple "Thank you". I origionally came in the Army as a Pvt during the hatred of the Viet Nam war. No matter what we were called "Baby Butchers" & were literally spat on (I was). At least now we are respected. I am thankful for the change.

Strange, I was welcomed into the anti American War in SE Asia movement. Never had anybody cuss me or spit. Closest I've seen to spitting was verbally by members of VFW, American Legion. Proud member of the Texas office of Vietnam Veterans Against the War, VVAW.

I didn’t sign up for gratitude or anything else so I find it very awkward when someone says “Thank you for your service”. Over time I have learned to accept it and usually answer with either “Thank you for your support” or “Thank you! It was a privilege or honor to serve”.

The liberals couldn’t care less about your service. It is the same as BLM, everyone says it but no one really gives a crap.

Funny, but I am a lib and volunteered for the draft back then and served over a year in Nam. And don't remember being thanked for my service by either Republicans or libs after arriving back home from my service back then! And i am pretty sure that if conservatives were the only ones serving this country, our military would be quite small! I am sure that of the many thousands who have died defending our great nation, they were made up of Republicans, Democrats, Libs, conservatives, gays, Blacks and numerous other ethnic groups, including Native Americans. I would assume you are a republican, but that sure doesn't make me dislike you or distrust you. We can disagree on political policy, but regardless, we are still all Americans and should be able to disagree in a respectful way! And by the way, one of my very best and closest friends in a Republican!

And as for you Sarge, thank you for your service, wish you a great New Year and a very healthy one at that!
