I've never asked this question, and I've never seen anyone else ask it, but I'm curious. What do you say when someone thanks you for your service?
My Military ID is right next to my driver's license and debit card in my wallet, so it's visible if I have to show my driver's license for something or if I'm taking my debit card out to use. Very often, someone who sees it will ask what branch I was in. Then they will thank me for my service. My usual answer is "Thank you for your support." But I'm curious about how others respond to that.

Hi, I say - Thank you. Did you serve? At the end of the conversation, I say, Thank you again, for your support, it was the best job I ever had, i loved serving!

I am part of an employee resource group for Vets at my place of employment and we had this very discussion. We decided that a good response when thanked for our service was to thank the person for their support.

This is a hard one for me. I live in an area that have military people everywhere. I wear my hat or shirt to show I am proud to have served even though I see people that act entitled. When someone says thank for your service, I use to think why thank me I just did what I thought was a good thing and my duty. Now when they say this I say your welcome and step away. I still have a problem when told this, but I guess I always will. Especially when I think how my Father was treated when he returned from Vietnam.

I always say "Thank you for my freedoms" instead of "Thank you for your service". I am an Army brat and a Navy Mom x 2 so I know a bit about the sacrifices. I am just so proud to know brave men and women stand the line. Nothing but love and respect for my Heroes!

I give a heart felt "Thank You, I appreciate that"! And if it happens to fellow "Brother in Arms" I return the appreciation.
