During my active duty days I had the opportunity to eat in numerous Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and of course Marine Corps chow halls. Good meals or bad meals aside, I would have to say that overall, Air Force Chow halls were the best.

Thank You for your compliment,
Master Gunny !

I cooked for AF when I was in. 14.5 years.. if it had not been for the medical sitreps (TBI & Stroke that. Came later) I’d of stayed longer.

Sampling a range of SOS offerings during a REFORGER exercise, best by far was the Traypak SOS

My father fixed it at home on occasion, Retire Air Force Master Sergeant, so it wasn't a new experience for me at OSUT. Back then, SOS and Chili Mac were the only two menu items that they didn't care how many serving you had as long as you ate every bit.

Chili Mac was ok a little greasy and it had a tendency to give one heart burn.

Chow Hall Cooks were masters of the omelet, SOS and pancakes. The salad bars also tended to be awesome. My favorite chowhall was on Kadena AFB in Okinawa. My fellow Marines and I would always go there every saturday morning for the AF grub. We had the added bonus of never having to bus our own tables either. We felt like kings when we ate there, and felt like servants when we went back to the Kinser chowhall.

Cpl Tom Surdi was never up early enough on a Saturday to make the trip to Kadena from Hansen.
