We have seen many things about our POTUS that many do not like about him, and while we have all had leaders we did not like, we could usually pick out a few things, or traits/characteristics you could use or emulate.

So, list the things you do like, keep it professional as always. What did momma say? "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say nothing all."

I'll start:
(1) President Obama broke the racial barrier. He earned an education, became a Senator and a lawyer and is now the President.
(2) He has given millions a hope that one day they can do something great, especially those from under privileged areas.

(3) He has largely supported the military until as of recently with the downsizing, which is inevitable in every decade, our leaders have to make cuts...we keep only the best and brightest, right?

(4) He is a very supportive husband and father, and we need strong father role models in today's society where fathers are as rare as a long term-marriage.

I believe he honestly wants good things for America...I don't necessarily agree with the way he is going about it.

(5) He authorized the killing of Osama Bin Laden.

I know there aren't many fans on RP, but if there is something you like, share it if you dare.

This is kind of hard to answer because he says one thing and then his administration does something totally different. I don't believe he is the anti-Christ as some people claim and he does believe in his personal convictions.

He did repeal "Don't ask don't tell" which I felt was discriminatory. More combat related roles are opening up to women which is a good thing as well.

To be fair I will answer in greater detail once he is out of office and the entire eight years can be evaluated.

Before I answer the question, I kind of have an ax to grind with the military/veteran community. Since when is military down-sizing evidence of not supporting the military? Our military spends more than the next ten nations COMBINED. We could stand to cut back a whole heck of a lot. Frankly, any president who expands the military these days, buying more contracts for ridiculous jets or ships that we don't need, is AGAINST us, in my opinion.

Anyway, about President Obama, I like that he's taken steps to normalize relations with Cuba. The embargo has failed, and it should have been lifted decades ago.

Embargoes are extremely different from war, MSG Ramon Hidalgo-Acosta . The embargo was meant to force the Communists out of power. 53 years later, not only are the Communists NOT out of power, they are nowhere NEAR that point. Why? Because the embargo hurts only the innocent Cuban people, and the Cuban government has, is, and will continue to use the embargo as the scapegoat for Cuban woes. America is to blame, as the Cuban people see it, not Communism. The embargo is a failed, immoral, idiotic, and shortsighted policy and should have been repealed long ago.

On the war, this is not a war we can win. A "war on terror" is so abstract that it doesn't even provide us with a uniform enemy. We went from fighting the Taliban, to Al Qaeda, to the Taliban again, and now ISIS. When will it end? Never. Short of genocide on a Biblical scale, this war can't be won. No, we should not allow terrorists to run amok, but we need to stop sending troops all over the world to do other people's heavy lifting. In fact, we should start deconstructing the majority of our overseas bases and bringing those troops back to the States.

No one nation can be both an Empire and a Republic for long before you have to let go of either the former or the latter. The fact that our military and veteran communities largely fail to grasp this is a frustrating thing.

Congress just needs its paychecks downsized and ability to spend money it doesn't have stripped. This country needs to start operating on a balanced budget and work toward having a budget surplus so we can get rid of this astronomical debt that we have saddled future generations with. It's criminal that the criminals in Congress who busied themselves promising the moon to special interests and then borrowing from future generations to pay for their extravagance are collecting a paycheck. They sure haven't done anything worthy of the calling to which they have been elected to serve.

1SG,
The equal pay issue is equal pay for equal work. The article addresses seniority of women in the federal service. I would invite you to look at Google's research on the topic (You can google it)

LT Minter, Opinion pieces and commentary pieces do not rise to the level of journalism. By that I mean that the article was fact checked by a third party, opposing points of view were given a reasonable opportunity to comment and the publication has a retraction/correction policy.

The exception is when the the commentator is a subject matter expert in the field they are addressing. Usually that involves the letters PHD after the name although there are exceptions.

Obama has the worlds worst job. It doesn't matter what he does, at least half the population will hate him. So here is a list of what he accomplished without personal bias:
- Repealed don't ask don't tell
- Executive order auditing government contracts
- Stopped a bush led depression
- Banned federal contracts from discriminating against homosexuals
- 50% cost decrease of prescriptions for seniors
- National health care system(complete failure, yet a push toward the right direction)
- Ended war in Iraq
- No more bush ordered tortures
- Greatly increased Veterans support
- Healthier school lunches for children
- Ended the F-22
- Increased stem cell research(this will cure hundreds of deadly diseases in the future, aids is already looking like it may be out the door.)

So yes. A lot of people do not like Obama. A lot of people don't agree with him. But the man has done a lot of good.

SGT Michael Glenn - I am just seeing this now. I did not vote this past election. The choices were Hilary Clinton or Donald Trump. Oi....
This election isn't looking too much better.
I gave you a thumbs up because you voted, even though I do not agree with your vote.
But now that it's been three years, how do you feel about Trump?
