Just the other days I saw a PFC wearing Rocky C4T boots, I asked him if he knew they were unauthorized and he told me that he does but his NCO hasn't told him anything so, he keeps using them.

Why do we keep seeing SM wearing unauthorized boots?

I know in my case I have a odd size 10 1/2 4 wide. I could not get boots through the system. So I ordered a pair of Nike, then when they came in asked my CO and 1SG if they were good to go? They asked "do they fit?", I said "Yes", they both said wear them. I wore a couple of pair out in Iraq and another pair in Afghanistan.

Who cares? You gonna reccomend that everyone wear the same type/color underwear too?

Definitely gonna recommend that they wear underwear that doesn't melt at a lower temperature than cotton burns, SFC Aaron Lutz.
No matter how comfie my UA boxers are, I'd go commando or find a cotton alternative before wearing them if I got invited to ride a convoy or spend much time in aircraft likely to undergo unplanned landings.

Part of the reason is a lack of awareness of the regulations in AR 670-1. Soldiers simply didn’t know and a lot of times leadership isn’t aware either. As others stated, even if they are, most of the time it is a matter of priorities: if it doesn’t look jacked up, is it that big of a deal?

I will also say that I think a lot of leaders realize too (from experience) that these other boots are way more comfortable to wear, so they go with it. Considering that the issues boots don’t jive with a lot of people, there is only so much blame from that perspective to go around.

Given now with the new uniform changes, I have noticed most of these boots have been madecAR670-1 compliant, so I feel this issue has diminished quite a bit.

Because it doesn't matter, the entire 'Boot Jihad' was done by flat-out the WORST garrison-gay SMA we have had in my lifetime, and we have real problems to worry about...

Seriously, if the boots are the right color brown, about 8" high, and not raggedy-ann worn out, who cares?

P.S. It doesn't matter what shoulder(s) you wear your backpack on, what color that backpack is, or any of the other 'PT Belt Nazi' stuff Chandler freaked out about & pushed down to the rest of the NCO Corps. Get. Over. It.
The 80s/90s Garrison Army died on 9/11 & we shouldn't be bringing it back.

- Ex NCO, now an officer.
Will NEVER care about this stupid stuff for myself OR my troops, any more than we 'cared' about PT belts on our front-line COP in the 'Stan.

ETA: When I say 'Garrrison Gay' that has nothing to do with his sexual orientation & everything to do with (A) he never deployed, and (B) he was one of those 'white socks will take your life' idiots who couldn't tell the difference between pointless tradition & operational concerns - obsessing over the first without caring about the second.

After you have a pair of synthetic uppers melt around your ankles in a vehicle fire, you might care more about how they're made, 2LT (Join to see).
But that's the opinion of an old-school infantry officer (née NCO) who never apologized for making a soldier unlace his boots for foot inspection, and who also knows that the Army's casualty rate in the early 1980s would shock the current generation of soldiers.

I think the fact the boots are broken in and darn comfortable has some still wearing them. Also if they are issue they are cheap and why not wear them till they are not serviceable. I saw guys still wearing Jungle Boots well into the 80's when I was in and no one ever called them on it.
