Can someone give an example of how long it took you to land a job using USAJOBS after the closing of a job posting??

There are a lot of reasons things take time via usajobs. Being a Veteran is one thing, then you have the 30% or greater disabability, and many many more. It is tough. Everyone should get updated electronic notices and you can always check you own status through the application manager on usajobs.

for any veteran that is 30% disabled, a combat veteran should contact the rep through VAforVets there is a ton of information plus profession guidance.

TSgt Kevin Buccola are you saying that the 30% or higher might actually hurt you in the long run. I have a 10 point letter because I am 20% from Tinnitus and a deviated septum from a Broken Nose. Neither of these injuries stop me from being productive. Thanks for the resource! S/F

Special Hiring Authorities
Special Hiring Authorities allow federal agencies to place eligible Veterans on a fast track to positions that are available through noncompetitive hiring. Although Veterans are not necessarily entitled to appointment under any of these authorities, it is helpful to be aware of them. Agencies may use Special Hiring Authorities at their discretion.
Veterans’ Recruitment Appointment (VRA)
The Veterans’ Recruitment Appointment (VRA) authority allows agencies to hire eligible Veterans noncompetitively through the GS-11 grade level. Veterans can be converted to a career or career-conditional appointment after two years of successful performance. If a Veteran is hired to fill a temporary/term position under VRA, the Veteran will not be converted after two years of service. Veterans’ Preference applies when using this authority.
30 Percent or More Disabled Veterans
The 30 Percent or More Disabled Veteran authority allows any Veteran with a 30 percent or more service-connected disability to be hired noncompetitively to any position for which they meet the qualification requirements. This is a time-limited appointment of more than 60 days, during which time Veterans may be converted to a career or career-conditional appointment based on successful performance. There are no grade level limitations for job opportunities under this authority.
Schedule A
Schedule A authority allows agencies to noncompetitively hire eligible disabled Veterans and persons with disabilities who have severe physical, psychological or intellectual disabilities. Veterans can be converted to a career or career-conditional appointments based on successful performance and there are no grade restrictions for job opportunities under this authority.

Been trying since 2011. Bachelors Degree, professionally written resume, Army Officer, Veteran...I recently received an email from a particular agency who said I was unqualified for an entry level business position. I have applied for hundreds of positions that I qualify for (6 years of HR experience)- nada.

I just applied for 6 jobs this past weekend, and I am hoping I get a call back, they are in locations nobody would ever want to go to like maine, Alaska, etc.

After over 100 applications.

I have gotten two jobs using USA Jobs. On the first job the government did not call me until the job had closed for 3 months. Then I got an interview and got an offer letter 3 weeks later. On the second job I was sent an email to set up an interview 10 days after the job closed. I then received an offer letter almost exactly one month after the interview.

PS - Always make sure you include a cover letter.

3 months, but achieved it after the 3rd try. So from the first posting about 5-6 months total.

I've had a few phone interviews, when I started, I was deployed. I've had one application that I got referred for (my first referral) back in August. That position is still open and I'm still referred, haven't heard any updates or anything since late August.

I have used it a couple of times and had absolutely no success. Those people just ask you questions , shuffle papers, put your name in a computer and there you are lost forever . Sorry that I can't help you .

Way back - when the earth was young. I started as a FF. It took a year to get into the federal system and the offering was 120 miles commute, one way. I accepted and sucked it up for 17 months, until I could get a transfer closer to home. I will say that in the Fire Departments you don't walk in an start at the top. You start even if you hold high credentials at the bottom. Rarely does a fire chief or Public Safety Director hire outside his installation.

I believe this is the way it is in life. They are always going to choose someone they know rather than some outsider who they don't know. Credentials are one thing but someone knowing a person's character speaks loud and clear.

When I transferred from Picatinny to Tobyhanna it was as Fire Chief. I made sure to talk to the Assistant Fire Chiefs at Tobyhanna, nothing would be worse than to come in and be undercut by Assistants that resented you. I had seven successful years at TYAD and left, because I felt it was my time to go.
