VA spent $6.3 million on sculptures and fountains for their hospitals. Should they have?

RP Members what do you think? Could this money have been put to better use for veterans or decrease backlogs with additional resources?

There’s a $483,000 rock sculpture that’s layered into cubes outside the mental health center at the Department of Veterans Affairs hospital in Palo Alto, Calif., that’s meant to evoke “a sense of transformation, rebuilding and self-investigation,” according to designers. It’s part of a renovated $1.3 million courtyard.

There’s an art installation on the side of a parking garage that displays quotes by Abraham Lincoln and Eleanor Roosevelt in Morse code, at a cost of $285,000. It lights up.

Maybe the art is needed to distract or amuse patients waiting in long lines for treatment...

Dumb. That's 6.3 million that should go to veterans services.

At first, I want to say it seems excessive, but then when I think of the WW2, Korea, and Vietnam vets who are in these hospitals for the remainder of their lives, I think anything that makes their remaining time more pleasant is worth the investment.

Smells like pork. Should be spent on vets and their families!

NOPE should never have happened! Drives the cost of operating the VA up in the very same way it does for ALL other hospitals. Unless someone donates something should NOT be setup. Conspicuous Spending at its best!

Hell no!! When we have care being provided correctly, then we can build a monument.

Our local hospital has gotten most all of it's grounds improvements from Scout Eagle Projects. would have saved that hospital that fortune, but I supposed they wanted a big splash.

That amount of money should be spent for the care of veterans and not into a pet idea of an administrator, if they want art there are a lot of gifted Veterans that can be asked and paid at a acceptable price.
