I retired from the US NAVY after 20 years of service. I'd continue my career with the Department of Agriculture. I'd retired one and a half years ago, to become a full time caregiver of my wife of 37 years.

12RPS's Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service National Program office fulfills consult requests for several types of compression garments to support a variety of medical conditions, and provides products supporting the size, level of compression, and material needs for the Veterans upper and lower extremity conditions.

VA's Caregiver Support Program provides services and supports for caregivers of eligible Veterans. If your spouse is a Veteran, they may be eligible for the VA services or the VA Caregiver Support Program. Please visit CSPs website for more information at https://www.caregiver.va.gov If your spouse is a non-veteran, there are a number of community resources that may be able to assist. The Eldercare Locator is a public service of the U.S. Administration on Aging connecting you to services for older adults and their families and can be reached at [login to see] .

I get a small monthly disability benefit for tinnitus related to my Navy shipboard service. Will my spouse continue to receive in case of my death. The payment is around $160./ mo. Thanks, Peter Levine, [login to see] (uS Navy, 1961-1968).

My father served in the Marines and retired after 21 years. He never received his 100% even though he should've been awarded it years before he passed. But he never got it and passed away three days before his appointment. He didn't have my mother on his page too, so she gets nothing even though they were married for over 50 years. Will she still qualify for any of the care giver benefits, since she is in need of care at 90 years old?

Make sure your family has a copy of your DD-214 and will be able to locate it after you pass on. Better yet, you can ensure you are eligible for interment and secure a letter confirming your eligibility in advance by going to VA’s Pre-Need eligibility website, https://www.va.gov/burials-memorials/pre-need-eligibility/ You can download and mail in the form along with a copy of your DD-214, or if you have a scan of your DD-214, you can apply online at the link on the bottom of the page. I’ve done this myself and it took me 6 minutes from start to finish. I got a letter confirming my eligibility two weeks later and now it is stored with my will. Applying for pre-need eligibility costs nothing and does not obligate your family to inter you in a particular national cemetery at the time of your death – they can choose from any open national cemetery or interment in a private cemetery if they wish. Applying for pre-need eligibility ensures that VA has the documents it needs to quickly arrange for your interment after you pass on, and spares your family from having to search for your DD-214 at the time they are grieving.

Thank you for your question. Individuals who wish to be considered for approval and designation as a Family Caregiver under VA's Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC) must submit a joint application, along with the Veteran, and participate in necessary eligibility evaluations (along with the Veteran) so VA may determine whether each PCAFC applicant meets PCAFC eligibility requirements. To learn more about the process of PCAFC eligibility determinations, please visit https://www.caregiver.va.gov/
