All, if you are married, do you wear your wedding ring in uniform? If you do, what kind and what are your thoughts on why you chose that type.

Okay...funny story: I was called out of the IRR and assigned to a unit that I had never worked with—infantry, but lots of women throughout the brigade. In training, before actually deploying, I was asked for sex on three different occasions by three different female soldiers (all E-4s). One asked if I wanted to be her (forgive me) "fuck buddy." Being the committed married type, I turned all three women down. I was trying to figure out what made me so "attractive" to these women. I stand 5'6", 130 lbs, and wasn't particularly muscular. I am the religious type as well, though not the type that ever brought it up in a conversation...so, I was always respectful. Finally, I decided to test something—I took my wedding ring off. ... After that, not a single female soldier propositioned me for sex and I was only hit on one more time (by a female Marine in line at the chow hall at Al Asad).

Yep, I have seen the wedding ring on a man act as a target. Tr complete opposite of how it works on a woman.

I was at a dentists appointment, in the chair and a drop dead blonde bombshell was prepping me for my visit. talk was usual, where from how long in service, how many different duty stations, I see you are married...but are you happy???? WTF !!!!! was my initial reaction, I too was nothing special to look at and asked her why the question and as she began rubbing her hand up my leg she explained that married men want no commitments and are therefore better with having flings.I declined and promised her it would stay between the two of us, our paths never crossed again. I saw too many sex crazed females both in the military and as spouses to make me wonder why they even marry in the 1st place if they are willing to screw around with anyone who will have them....

I wore a traditional gold band in the AF. When I was active duty, there were no silicone rings that I was aware of.
I have a close friend that is making the silicone rings after almost losing his finger when his traditional metal ring got caught on playground equipment while playing with his kids.
I think they're a great alternative to metal rings for active duty and active wear. He's offering a 20% discount coupon on his silicon rings for military. Here's the link if anyone is interested:

I do wear my ring. If I didn't if probably sleep on the couch. Lol. The odds of me getting a finger ripped off are slim. I'm a chaplain. My hands get used for praying---not a whole lot of anything mechanical.

Same! Ring for everything, except when I go (as others have mentioned) in work areas (engine spaces, lifts, guns and mounts, etc. on the ship).

Yes traditional metal, and have for 23 years.
Though not at work...after June 1990.. why you ask? Because one of my sqd leaders De-gloved his finger when we were doing dismount drills (Anti Tank platoon, HMMWV gun trucks) Came out the TC door and the ring caught on the door latch.. he was half way to the side of the truck ready to receive the Thermal sight when he realized his finger hurt and was bleeding.
Never again wore a ring at work unless I was only in the company area and not around vehicles or equipment.

I usually tend not to in uniform, specially during training or any kind of field time. Now that I'm working in a hospital though I wear one of the cheap silicone ones while leaving my actual good one at the house for when the uniform comes off.

SSG(P) (Join to see), Ouch! I wouldn't want a ring that can't be cut off. I have seen too many people need rings cut off due to injury or swelling. Rings are replaceable. Fingers not a much.

TSgt Joshua Copeland There are definitely times when I take it off, such as during PT or turning wrenches on my motorcycle, washing dishes after dinner... don't want it going down the drain!
As for work, I'm in the field quite a bit with my students, so I'm also the example of doing the right thing by staying in the prescribed field uniform for instructors, which includes wearing gloves. I've become accustomed to wearing them on and off duty, because I ride my bike whenever the weather will allow (including cold, that's what Gore-Tex is for).

When I was married, I carried my wedding ring on my key chain. I always had it with me. So I would not loose it or get it caught on something that might rip my finger off.

I ditched my ring in uniform, helos and airplanes like to rip rings off and take fingers with them.

I wear a black Seranite ceramic ring and have never had to take it off except for Boot Camp. It doesn't get too hot or cold, is very light and is extremely scratch resistant and black all the way through, so any scratches aren't noticeable. I recommend it to anyone.
