DRMO's worldwide would have a field day with that demand.

I find it interesting that they are getting rid of the situp, and nobody is talking about the V-up. I cannot complete a single V-up without back pain. Situps have never bothered me. I'm also not stupid enough to pull on the back of my head to get an extra couple reps.

V-Up isn't part of the APFT. You may not be stupid enough, but you can't speak for the entire Army.

Couldnt agree more. Few people use perfect form and almost always put excessive strain on their neck

I have never had any neck strain with the sit up. If they want to correct it for those that use improper technique, then just switch it to am arms across chest version.

Planks. Love-hate relationship.

I used to like planks until I past the 3:00 mark. Now, it's hollow body holds, Windshield wipers, and Hanging Feet-to-bar raises.

What abs/core exercise would you replace the APFT sit-up with?

Flutter-Kicks. They help strengthen the hip-flexors!

Do you know how fast you could get assassinated for saying that in the wrong place at the wrong time?

I'd rather do flutter kicks than sit ups.

Anything that eliminates the yanking on the back of the head/neck when core/hip flexors aren't well trained.

Pullups with the legs parallel to the ground. What do you think, SGM?

Any exercise that does more good for the abs than it does damage to the lower back.

Timed plank. Excellent core exercise.

Timed planks. (I'd actually suggest Center, Left, and Right).

This is where that "old man endurance" is actually going to be "age graded UP" instead of down. Instead of having to do less when you are 40, you do more....

As an older guy I think this makes perfect sense. People my age dont hurt their back because they did too much but rather because they haventkept their core strong

LT Erik Frederick - Yep. And many don't realize that our (I'm one of those older guys now) loss of speed/strength comes with insane increases in endurance. Every minute slow on a mile we are, just means we can run a minute longer. You don't see young guys win ultra marathons, just like you don't see old guys win marathons. There's a trade off endurance for speed. I think Planks are a perfect example of how we would get better with age.
