I would say Tommy Lee Jones. R Lee Ermey was great, but Tommy has no prior military service and has done a great job in movies like Firebirds and Captain America for example.

Sam Elliot as Sergeant Major Basil Plumley in We Were Soldiers.

I know a lot of folks will probably say Bradley Cooper. Well, didn't know CPO Kyle, but from what I have read and heard, he did do an amazing job. The movie itself was too much for me.

I think I would have to go with Mel Gibson and Sam Elliot as LTC Hal Moore and CSM Basil Plumley. They were phenomenal, and I know men who knew them very well. I feel like they were portayed accurately and the actors really seemed to care about their efforts.
