What advice would you give to someone going to Korea (first duty station) who has never been out of the country before?

Keep your eyes open and your mouth shut. Listen. Do not be "the ugly American". You represent not only your branch of service, you represent the entire USA, and you may be the only American many foreigners actually see, up close.
As a child my dad was stationed in 2 foreign countries, and when I was active, on sea duty, I saw plenty of foreign countries. Listen, look, and learn.

Don't be an asshole, go out and eat some good food, don't get too drunk, learn the language, take college courses, and don't be an asshole.

Don't be a fucking douche. STFU, eat at the DFAC and don't spend money you don't have. Learn the language and become proficient

learn the language even if its just the basics. and the customs. even though almost everyone speaks english, it will go a long way to show that you arent the stereotypical american. if you are single dont look for a girlfriend in a bar. do not have more than one girlfriend at a time. if you ride a motorbi find a local club they will love to have you. maybe try church to find friends. the on post clubs are safe. if you do find a friend and start thinking long term understandable and they will love you as much as you love them. remember they are big on family and wont want to leave them behind if you bring them to the land of the big px. the A frame in Osan has some of the most beautiful women in the world. although I dont know if it is still there. have fun good luck and get out in the countryside. BTW learn the diff between winter and summer kimchi

They will brief you when you get there. I was stationed in Suwon 2002-2003. I wish I had learned more of the language. Osan is where most people hang out on weekends. I don't know if Camp Humphreys is still there, but it was smaller than Osan and had different amenities.

Camp Humphreys is now much larger since they have just moved 8th Army/UN Command there as well as just about all our units that were in Seoul. The South Koreans now patrol the DMZ with our troops that were pulled back south of Seoul except for the Peace Village. Stripes.com (on-line Stars & Stripes newspaper) has had several articles about it.

Learn some words in their language. Be open to trying their foods. It is their country, be respectful of their culture. Be a good representative of your culture and not an Ugly American invader. Learn from them and expand your education to include understanding Korean history art and world view.

PV2 (Join to see) Enjoy the different culture. Do not let others make your experience worse. If you find someone that has a good outlook it will make your tour easier. Listen to your NCO's and always be aware of your behavior on/off post.

Stay out of the Bars (Base Clubs OK). Go online, learn to count to 20. Learn at least 50 nouns and other words. No matter what order you put them in and point they will understand. Travel as much as you can in country. Don't put it off, time will go fast and you will kick yourself later in life.

Get a tourist passport. Inchon is the gateway to the rest of Asia. Take some leave to Australia/New Zealand/Japan/etc.
