What are some of the best military education programs?

I have recently found a educational program in the Army that offers training for Lean Six Sigma. I never knew of this program. I wish I knew of this earlier. Some of us know about these programs but I don't think many do. I am sure there are out there but a lot of them are overlooked or many soldiers are not informed.

Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) and Navy Post-graduate School are two of the best deals going. Both offer Masters and doctoral programs. You go to school full time for up to 2 years, tuition paid, full pay and allowances. Very competitive to get in. AF considers it equal to ACSC.

The issue that National Guard has is that we usually don't get a shot at these things. Many times just getting enough funds to put you on orders is hard enough.

CLEP/DANTES
Free to service members. Walk in take a test. If you pass, you get 3-6 college credits. Most schools take 30~ right off the bat. That's a year you don't have to pay for, for stuff you already know.
CLEP's include "general" knowledge like English composition (6 credits), College Math (6 credits), or Accounting (6 Credits), while DANTES are 3 credits, but might be Upper Level.
Worst case scenario, you don't pass and you have to take the class. Best case, you spend 2 hours at base education and don't spend 8-16 weeks sitting in a classroom going over things you already know...paying for it.

MAJ (Join to see) I did most of them on terminal leave, and then did nothing for the following 12~ years... so I can't say I was really smart about it. I'm actually on my last (and only class) for my B/S now. I finish up next week. It's been a strange journey.

Does the CLEP/DANTES work for Master's programs, as well? I'm looking into getting a Master's in Homeland Security after RASP, and of course I'd like to minimize my credit load.

That is unfortunate. Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS --or anyone else, especially Army folks -- would there be any benefit for someone who already has a B.A. to take these tests? With a B.A., my civilian education promotion points are already more than maxed.

The Army used to have a program to help pay for crewchiefs to get their tickets punched for the A & P (airframe and powerplant) license when they were still on active duty. It was big about 15 years ago but it may have been cancelled. It is a $2K+ after the fact. Great thread CPT (Join to see). If you don't seperate from the service with a fat mil/civ education folder you are doing yourself a disservice.

I am training go get as much as I can. I got my degree thanks to them and I am trying to take advantage of everything I can.
