What are some of the best name combinations you came across while serving?

I knew a Soldier  with the last name Major and he was a sergeant, so when someone would call his name SGT Major, Soldiers would go to parade rest or the Sergeant Major (E-9) would turn around.

What's so unusual about that?  The Major is probably of Vietnamese descent.

This is not a military but I had an urologist named Dr.  Cockburn.  He was  quick to state that it is pronounced as Co - burn.

Had a buddy named Holopeter but we just called him ED - short for Empty Dick.
Couple years later, had a LCpl whose first name was Little-bear, he said his parents were hippies

We had a NCO in the motor pool who's last name was slaughter. Sergeant slaughter was a GI Joe character. I thought that was cool

Met a PVT2 Army on Ft Eustis, Private Army got all kinds of ribbing. Then went on to meet a LT Woody, everyone, including enlisted, kept asking him how he wanted to be addressed when he made O-4

When I checked into my first unit in the Fleet, I was in the OPS office getting things squared away with the training Officer.

As I was standing there his SNCOIC walked by and I saw his name tape.

GySgt. Deathrage.

He actually checked out about 3 months later to go to PI. Can you imagine showing up to PI and your Senior Drill Instructor is name Gunny Deathrage? And man, he looked the part too!

When I checked into TBS at Quantico, the very first day we had an orientation class. Before hand we were all out in the main hallway just milling about smartly, and this guy walks by me with his name tape messed up.

I stopped him because I figured he must not know, otherwise why would he be there with a messed up name tape.

I stopped him quietly and said "Hey man. They messed up your name ta..."

I couldn't even get it out of my mouth before he raised his hand to stop me talking and said: "I know, I know. It isn't messed up. That's my name."

You all had to be there when I first met 2ndLt. Marine, Joseph L. US Marines.

Joe Marine. He always had something to start a conversation with though!

I worked with a MSG Majors a few years back. She confuse the hell out of people when she answered the phone. I also saw a SGT Faggot on an IRR roster I definitely understand why he wanted to get out.

When I was promoted to Sergeant, folks started having trouble saying "Sergeant Schwager." It's not that hard, but it was kind of embarrassing when you'd be standing in formation and they'd call your name and screw it up. LOL

We had a "Major Dick" on 22 MEU float. Before the float was over he got promoted to LtCol. In reality, he was a pretty cool guy and didn't live up to his namesake.
