This is a slightly different topic than famous movie quotes. These are real life quotes -- things that real people [not Hollyweird actors!] said.

What we're doing here is looking for quotes that have some kind of connection of meaning to you that you think others might identify with and vote up.

What I'm referring to are famous military quotes, political, inspirational, satire, witty, sarcastic, etc.

It can even be something you came up with (Don't plagiarize!) or a quote from your friends, but if it's never been in print, you need to tell the story that goes along with it.

Enter as many times as you like. We'll let the up votes determine the overall winners, and in each general category.

Here's an example of something sarcastic by witty:
"They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory!" << (That was Clemson not that long ago.)

LOL, Gen Mattis definitely has a take no prisoners attitude. Here's another quote attributed to him that's pretty worthy : )

"When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pussy."
-- Leutenant General James Mattis, USMC

(The above is also attributed to General Tommy Franks) < Saw that on a quotes site

A quote attributed to MajGen Chesty Puller:

"We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things"

Words to live by.

@SSG Juan Villacis - I guess, with the prevalence of social media, our good leaders are afraid that one misstep will haunt them forever. It's a shame things have devolved to that.

@MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca - if I remember, correctly, sir, that quote came from Walt Kelly of Pogo fame. IMHO, those comics are more spot-on now than they ever were.

Just saw a great quote attributed to The Hon. Paul N. McCloskey, Jr.

"Congressmen are like diapers. Both need to be changed often and for the same reason"

Priceless

My father told me one thing about serving in the military

"If it runs, you don't fix it. If it don't run, you paint it"

That was coming from the experience of an era of serving in the Korean War & Vietnam War.

That was pretty much SOP in the Navy as well. : )

Their version of it was, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it IS broke, fix it. If you can't fix it, paint it. And if you can't paint it, throw it over the fantail."

Then throw a safety belt around it after you paint it so some poor dumb bastard doesn't run into it doing PT.

I have some. My daddy always said two things:

"Treat other people how you want to be treated. It doesn't matter if they are the janitor or the mayor"

and my favorite that he said "Live life, have fun, and don't forget to laugh"

My other favorite is a quote from Marilyn Monroe "Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are"

@PV2 Lisa Wilcox - I saw a good quote recently, forgive me if you've heard it before.

"Be careful - the toes you step on today are connected to the ass you need to kiss tomorrow"

That about sums it up
