What do you think the 10 most important MOSs in the Army are? And list them in order. Under the assumption that the Army is operating as a self sufficient unit with no civilian support.

All MOS/AFSC are equally important to support the mission operations of a self sufficient self sustaining Unit

All specialties are important. The most important depends on one's point of view. Being an Air Force guy, I don't know Army MOSs so I'll do my best based on my time as an Army Civilian.

1. Logistics Planner
2. Transportation Officer/NCO
3. Supply NCO
4. Command and Control NCO/specialists
5. Communications specialist
6. IT specialist
7. Combat Arms NCOs (multiple MOSs here)
8. Combat Arms specialists (multiple MOSs here)
9. Combat Arms Officers (multiple MOSs here including commanders)
10. Medical Personnel (includes medics, corpsmen, nurses, doctors)

SGT Eliyahu Rooff - Served as a medic and i can tell you that we planned, trained and always had the men under our care as our first priority. I have no idea what unit you served that would seriously suggest that medics were just sitting around on their asses. I can tell you that service as a medic is as respected a MOS as any in the military.

SGT Randall Smith - SGT Smith - I don't know if you've seen my comments re: our Battalion Medic named Ed Cuyar (don't know if he's on here, but he is on TogetherWeServed). He fixed me up, along with many others, during training accidents in Germany during that "Cold War" thing. He was especially helpful when there was a "Buster Le Body Louse" outbreak during one of our field firing exercises. An all-around great guy, Ed went on to be an EMT for FDNY, and then and actual fireman for FDNY on Staten Island. He was in one of the reserve Fire Houses when the
Twin Towers were hit. Thankfully, he has survived his years of service and is now retired. I love him like few other men. P.S. I'm a "tanker'.

There is a rationale to my top 10 list. 1 through 6 get the combat arms soldiers to the fight. 7, 8 & 9 execute the plan taking the fight to the enemy. The medics along with the log community, 1-6 again, get the war fighters home.

Always respected the medical people I worked with-my daughter is a USNR Nurse.

Well lets see , top 10. They are all important in one way or another so I think there are no top 10 or top to bottom remember we are are all brothers/sisters and need to look out for one another. I was in Food Service and retired a E-7 Food Ser Sgt (Mess Daddy)

All of them....... maybe we dont need a band I can listen to whatever music I want on an Ipod, cooks I can heat my own mre, chaplains they dont carry weapons and need to be defended. Just joking we really need everyone in the team.

The foot, the cannon-cocker, the scout, the track-cannon, the cook, the chaplain, the medic, the mechanic, the sky jockey, the sea dog, and the cable runner.

I have not read all of the responses to this question....A[[ mos's are required to run the military....Is it not the reason we call it an Army of one.....

If it supports shooting , moving and communicating it is a worthwhile MOS

As an 11B1P I used to think that only the Infantry were important. Fortunately I began to see the "total Army" concept and wised up very quickly. There are no "worthless" MOSs in the Army-only excellent, above standard, standard, and below standard soldiers. You can find all of these in every MOS.

There are no worthless MOS in the Army. Each military branch and MOS serves an essential role. If you actually removed all civilian (contractor and government) from the equation, you would need to add additional MOS to the mix as the Army would have to compensate for the lost expertise.
