The Lion of Lucerne - This memorial is located in the town of Lucerne, Switzerland. It is a very moving monument, the mortally wounded lion's expression is one of agony as he lays on top of the crest of the French monarchy, the inscription beneath him tells the story the one above him refers to the Swiss Guardsmen who were killed. The Latin translation says, “To the loyalty and courage of the Swiss.” The Swiss Guardsmen came to the aid of the French monarchy and gave their lives trying to protect and to give them time to escape during the French Revolution. Over 600 were killed during the battle, the ones that survived the battle were killed when they returned to their barracks by revolutionaries, an additional 100 died in prison.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs Thank you, sir. It's definitely in some good company there on Memorial Avenue. Last summer was my first visit to Arlington, and unfortunately I only had a couple hours to look around, but I'll definitely be back at some point.

There was a competition with different renderings. This is an etching of one of the 4 that were submitted in this group. I rescued it on the way to the dumpster. Now it's placed next to other memories. You'll see some similarities, but in the end, they went with a less cluttered look.

Mustang 22 was a Nevada ARNG CH-47D that was shot down by a RPG in Afghanistan in 2005. 5 crew members were killed.

I like the memorial, COL Mike Humphrey. I was curious as to the static display, though. In the background is a CH-54 Tarhe (Skycrane), and not a Chinook. Is there a Chinook also displayed there?

This is the Submarine memorial located in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii. This memorial is a monument to the submarines and submarinars who served during WWII. Each granite stone contains a picture of the submarine and the names of those lost that "went off the scopes" were never heard from again. The list of officers and crew are "on eternal patrol" There are 52 stones representing the 52 submarines that did not come home. I took this picture from the deck of the USS Bowfin, which made it home and is now on display at this site.

This is the America's Response Monument, it sits in front of One World Trade Center across the street from the National September 11 Memorial, in New York City. The statue commemorates the servicemen and women of America’s Special Operations response to 9/11, including those who fought in the early days of Operation Enduring Freedom. COL Mikel J. Burroughs

This is the anchor of the USS Arizona on display in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawai'i, a tribute for the men who died on December 7, 1941. Behind the anchor to the left, you can see the USS Arizona memorial.

I've been to the USS Arizona Memorial twice, CPT (Join to see). Overwhelming, the feeling of reverence and quiet generated there.
