At United States Coast Guard Station, Point Judith, R.I. Honoring PS3 Ronald A. Gill, Jr who lost his life on March 25, 2007 while conducting operations north of Vashon Island in Puget Sound. This monument is one of many in our country that honors the sacrifice of individual members of our military community. The location of this memorial is absolutely awesome and the visit is a humbling experience

Monument in honor of Father Francis Patrick Duffy located at Duffy Square in Times Square, New York City. Father Duffy was the chaplain of New York's 69th Regiment ( 'Fighting 69th'). It is written that Father Duffy often was in the front lines and would accompany litter bearers into the thick of battle to recover wounded soldiers. He is the most highly decorated cleric in the history of the U.S. Army. April 6th will mark the 100th anniversary of the U.S. entry into 'The Great War'.

Fighting 69th, another great Irish-American regiment. Some of my Mom's family (Scots-Irish) served in that unit.

MAJ Tom Hutton - Thank you Tom, but I must confess that is not my image. My son was in NY and I asked him to be sure to take a picture of this monument and I was fortunate that he was staying close by.

The massive monument at the Punch Bowl was featured each week at the start of the original Hawaii Five-O series.

The Vietnam War Memorial (aka the Wall) is probably the most accurate representation of the nation's feelings about any military conflict: A big dark hole in the ground filled with the (names of) dead soldiers.

Two monuments in this image. The battleship is the USS Massachusetts berthed at Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA. In the background is the Braga Bridge. which carries Interstate 195 and connects Somerset, MA & Fall Rive MA over the Taunton Rive. The bridge is officially the Charles M. Braga Jr Memorial Bridge. The bridge memorializes Charles Braga who was the first resident of Fall River, MA who was killed during WWII. He died while a member of the crew of the USS Pennsylvania during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

My home town is a converted US Army Post. Here is a link to the museum in Fort Oglethorpe which sits adjacent to Chickamauga Military Park which was used extensively by the 6th Calvary. http://6thcavalrymuseum.org/home0.aspx
