COL Mikel J. Burroughs - I've only had the chance to be up that way once, but this one definitely stuck with me.

I've always been interested in that war because of my father's service and how little he spoke of it, but nothing does it justice quite like that monument.

This Wall, and the Arizona memorial are my favorites. The Arizona memorial represents not just the death of those sailors and the sinking of that ship, but it represents and memorializes all those that gave all in the Pacific theater, and the wall memorializes all those that fought and died in Vietnam!

I too am always humbled byt he Wall. My name is on that wall 7 times but by God's
providence I am not. When I have visited the wall, I take time to visit not only those I know but these 7 others to show them respect for their sacrifice.

For me, it's always been the Korean War Memorial. As someone who's been on a lot of patrols, I can see myself in every pose, at one time or another. I can totally relate.

SSG Gerhard S. Awesome - one of my favorite as well because of my late father's service in Korea. I had the pleasure of taking him on an Honor Flight to Washington DC this June of 2016 before he passed away in October 2016. A time I will never forget! Thanks for sharing Gerhard!

I don't have a picture of it right now but I will always be grateful to have seen and visited the Buffalo Soldier Memorial, I was able to see my Great Grandfather's name on it.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs - The one at Ft Leavenworth is absolutely gorgeous. Pvt John Avery 9th Calvary Regiment, that is my Great-Great Grandfather, that's the one his name is on.

I visited Normandy, France - all the major monuments, cemeteries, and museums (without a tour guide, just us in a rental car) and was humbled by the fortitude and courage of The Greatest Generation.

This is the 1st Division Monument in Washington, D.C.. "The U.S. Army's First Division monument was built to honor the valiant efforts of the soldiers who fought in World War I, later additions commemorated the lives of First Division soldiers who fought in subsequent wars.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs, here's a memorial that is little seen due to its remote location, and thus, has faded into virtual obscurity. It's the Ernie Pyle Memorial on the island of Ie Shima (Iejima) northwest of Okinawa Island. Pyle was a "Pulitzer Prize–winning American journalist. As a roving correspondent for the Scripps-Howard newspaper chain, he earned wide acclaim of his accounts of ordinary American soldiers during World War II." The inscription reads simply: "AT THIS SPOT THE 77th INFANTRY DIVISION LOST A BUDDY ERNIE PYLE 18 APRIL 1945." The photo is of my father (to the right) and was taken between 7AUG45 and 16AUG45. LTC Stephen C. I would like to be able to visit the Ernie Pyle Memorial on the island of Ie Shima (Iejima) northwest of Okinawa Island one day. Ernie Pyle helped me learn to love the military soldiers and life in the early 1960's as I first read Brave Men.
