Without a doubt, there are truly some great resources available to active and Reserve component personnel and veterans. Of course, if folks don't know that they're out there, members and their families couldn't possibly benefit from some of these amazing offers and services. So, the idea here is to share those helpful tidbits of information, tips, links, lessons learned, processes, resources, wisdom and/or POCs to help members find the resources they need for their troops, their families, and to help themselves. Just a couple of quick admin notes, please make sure to share the source if known, and remember to post in accordance with RallyPoint guidelines. Well, I'm certain that will be a great way to get timely information, resources, and assistance to those who need it most, when they need it the most... so, if you have something useful, helpful, or good-to-know, please feel free to share. Alright folks, it's that time, so pull-up a keyboard and let's get this thing started; thank you for all that you do, and... see you all in the discussion threads!

The Army Fit site has a lot of good stuff for service members and their families. I think it is available for anyone who has ever been in DEERS.

HirePatriots.com was launched in 2005. The founders were living next door to Camp Pendleton Marine Base. One
day a Marine who had just returned home from Iraq knocked on their door. “Sir,” he said, “I just got back from deployment and found out that my wife was laid-off a couple of months before I got back home. And when I got back today I found out that our utilities were turned off. So I need to earn some extra money to make sure that we can have lights and heat before my kids go to sleep tonight. – Is there any work or repairs that I can do for you around your home or yard?”
Our founders wanted to just give the Marine the money he needed; but, he insisted on working for it. So he cleaned their house, did yardwork and fixed the carburetor on an old car they had. The Marine earned $100 that day and got his bills paid.

After that our founders created HireMarines.com to see if any other residents wanted to hire local Marines. Within a few months 10,000 residents and Marines were coming to the site every week! -- The website changed its name to HirePatriots.com when the sailors in San Diego asked if they could use the site too.

***Education***
Free Non-Credit college courses - courtesy of CPT Carrie Papproth All education is self-education. Period. It doesn’t matter if you’re sitting in a college classroom or a coffee shop. We don’t learn anything we don’t want to learn.

Those people who take the time and initiative to pursue knowledge on their own are the only ones who earn a real education in this world.

Take a look at any widely acclaimed scholar, entrepreneur or historical figure you can think of. Formal education or not, you’ll find that he or she is a product of continuous self-education.

I ran across this in Army Times - Army launches new graduate school program

Applications are being accepted for a new professional development initiative that will provide up to 18 months of fully-funded graduate studies to basic-branch captains and majors of the active component.

About 50 officers of the Operations, Operations Support and Force Sustainment functional categories will be selected for the Performance Based Graduate School Incentive Program that begins in the fall of 2016 or spring of 2017, depending on class start dates.

Full article and info can be found here: http://www.armytimes.com/story/military/careers/army/officer/2014/12/08/performance-based-grad-school/19843661/?sf34451843=1

*** Non-Profit ***
Suits for Soldiers - courtesy of SGT Tony Lee Hamilton The conception of Suits for Soldiers began in August 2012, while I was serving overseas in the US Army. I was passing through Kandahar Air force Base in Afghanistan, and was anxiously awaiting my wife to get on Facebook so that we could talk. I came across an article about a soldier who did not get a job because he was not dressed in proper business attire, and it saddened and infuriated me. He had a good education and more credentials than his friend who ended up getting the job. The reason - His friend wore a suit. When my wife got online I told her I wanted to start a nonprofit to benefit all veterans and provide them suits for interviews, so this would not happen again.

Below is a linked discussion here on RallyPoint that should help many children and families when they deal with the PTSD issue. Thanks to PO3 Steven Sherrill for starting this in the Family section. I have this book electronically and read it to my boys now and then when things are tough for me. Usually I notice we should read it when I tend to be a little easily angered when they try to put up any and all road blocks going to bed.
